Inherited Water Cooling Components

post #1 of 7

Hey,

I have come to be the owner of some water cooling equipment but I need some help finishing my build. The story is that my friend was going to water cool his twin ATI 5970's and decided not to at the last minute... So I got everything for free...

I read that if my pump is too strong my system won't cool effectively? Also I was wondering what size reservoir I will need. I don't have a 5970, but I am looking to get a 6990 for my next graphic card. Is it worth it to wc a card like that?

Here is what I have:

10Ft of red 1/2in ID tubing
Danger Den DD12V-D5 12V Fixed Speed Water Pump
EK Radeon HD 5970 VGA Liquid Cooling Block
MCR320-QP Extreme Duty Triple 120mm Radiator
Cross Fire fittings for the water blocks...

What I need:

Reservoir
Barbs

Sorry for making the post really long...

Just verify that the GPU block can fit and function on the 6990 down the road. Otherwise, the GPU loop looks just fine. The EK blocks are alright. They will work with the D5 pump in the loop for flow.

@bmaverick,

I was going to wait for the 6990 to be release or my friend might go to nvidia so I would get a 5970 for cheap. But the loop should be fine? Also what sized reservoir should I use?

You don't need a res. You can make a t line. Bet if you tried you could put it all together now

But if you really want a res... well. I heard a rumor someone might be bringing out his super 3bay waterfall res again

I am still kind of new to this, I though you needed a t line with a res so you could fill it an bleed it... If I didn't have one would it make a difference?

What is a 3bay waterfall res?

You can fill a res with a fill line too, or just put a funnel in it.

A 3 bay waterfall res takes up 3 5.25" bay slots and has a "waterfall" inside it. Its pretty cool.

@ttaylor0024,

I hate to ask these questions... but does the t line have to go above the pump and how do I know when its filled?
