To RMA cpu as well or not! sandy bridge!

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Well turns out I can rma the gigabyte P67a UD7 I have. Currently I'm ruining the cpu at 4.7ghz with 1.4V. I can do 4.8 @ 1.45 and 5ghz isn't quite stable @ 1.52 but the temps are really hot. Do you guys think I Should rma the cpu as well and maybe get a better one? Or with my upcoming watercooling setup and lower temps do you think it will hit 5ghz stable? I'm using a Noctura Dh14 with Prime on small integer temps get to 70-75 C @ 4.7.

Thanks

I say keep the CPU, if it works fine no need to RMA it. Also does anyone know how long it would take to RMA my board if I Sent it off now?

From what I've seen, your odds are better of getting a chip that can hit 5.0, however, it depends on the board too.

It really doesn't depend on the board at all really.

Even if it did he has a top level board, so he would be fine there as well.

Dont be greedy. There is no reason to rma a perfectly fine cpu. Overclocking isn't a right, anything more then the stock speeds is a bonus. They can't resell the chip as new, and every person who takes advantage of the system are also the reason why things are so expensive.

According to the batch #'s this cpu should do 5ghz easy but apparently either it's a heat issue gets really hot or cpu is just maxing out.

Yeah im just stuck 50/50 on it lol

I RMA'd with MSI before and it turned around within a week. They are pretty fast and replaced mine with a new board. With these P67s... I donno though.

Are you seriously going to RMA a chip because it's running hot @ 5GHz? Are you freaking kidding man?

No where on Intel's Ark page does it guarantee that it will do any speed over stock speed, therefore you won't have a snowballs chance in hell of getting a legitimate RMA on a chip that is 100% fine.

Also keep in mind that just because someone's chip from the same batch hit 5GHz at x.xx volt that does not mean that yours will even get close to that. You have to understand that there are so many factors to consider that it isn't even funny.
