AeroCool Case Repaint: The Red Gamer - DONE!

Here's a quick sketch I did of my case in Illustrator to give myself a basic look to the case. You can use this to mock up something.

I need ideas on what to do with this. Since the theme of my motherboard and internals are RED I figured I'll start in that direction. My first thought would be to cut out the grill on the side panel, make it a bit bigger and stick a sheet of plexi-glass in there. Any specific cool shape would look nice that I can use? I do have a 120mm fan on the bottom 1/2 of the side panel right now and I really have to keep that on there.

Also was thinking on painting the case, probably some type of metallic red, but keep the front bezel black. Would that look too tacky or should I do some stuff on there red as well? I can't paint the 5.25" bay covers as they're a mesh and I don't want the holes clogging up due to that being a source for air. I also replaced the yellow case logo on the front with the blank cover from the ODD.

Thoughts?

Well, I did create a mock up of what I would like to do. Picked metallic red and silver for the colors. The glossy black is already there so I'm leaving it alone. Any ideas on what kind of paint I should use? I'm on a small budget (not over $20?) and I would like it to last. Did take a look at the 5.25" bay covers and I can remove the metal mesh and the holes aren't as small as I thought, so I think a bit careful light spraying will cover them without clogging.

Haven't figured out if I'm just going to cut out the grill on the side panel and just use that as a template for the plexiglass or cut the hole bigger. Think I'm leaning more towards just cutting out the grill to make it easier.

Update on the case repaint. So far things are going good, got the first coat of color on everything last week, and today I got the 2nd color coat and a layer of clear coat on top on everything except the front bezel. The case itself is all good to go, but the panels, the clear coat isn't looking too good so I have to do a 400 grain sanding and another layer of clear coat. The front bezel I still have to add another coat of red onto that, and the grates on the front I still have to get a light coat of silver on those, then those can get a clear coat.

Pics to show:

All taped up waiting for the paint.

A couple shots of the "Aluminum" case color. All I have to say is that if you ever use metallic paints, make sure to shake the can up really well, otherwise the metallic flecks will separate from the paint and look like crap.

The front side panel. I accidentally sprayed the red into the silver and there's a couple of funny spots where it globbed or crap got stuck in the paint, so I have to sand and redo those. Otherwise it's looking pretty well.

Everything put inside the case. I was surprised on how fast the paint had already dried. It wasn't tacky at all and I even took my fingernail to an unseen part of the case and no paint came off.

So far, my $25 or so that I've put into this is turning out pretty well!

Well, for the most part, it's done!

The paint turned out pretty well. I ended up just painting the whole windowed panel red since it was going to be a pain to repaint the window bezel silver. Might end up doing that later when I decided to work on the plexiglass for the window. Apologize if this pic looks a bit funny. Camera was acting up with this shot.

Couple of questions:

Any ideas on what to do with these hideous cables? I was just going to wrap them in electrical tape since I already have that. Since I'm also OCD about that kind of stuff, I'll do it right so it actually looks decent.

Also, can I cut off the dangling AC' 97 adapter since I use the HD Audio?

Use a paper clip to remove the pins from the connector and sleeve the wires.

Go to a hardware or military store and get Para-cord to use as Sleeve

there are sleeving tuts every where.

Well, I started the topic before the whole rearranging, so if a mod could do that, that'll be great.
