yeah. it is hard to swallow. i decided to do it because i realized i waste money on every other aspect of my rigs anyways... so oh well. very satisfied that i did. i guess i'd factor in how often you use your pc and what all you use it for... i also watch a lot of movies/shows since i use a 42" screen as a monitor.

I have to agree with the OP I picked up an STX about 3wks ago and it is amazing. I went right from on board audio to this. It is hard to fork over 200$ for a sound card but if you have a nice set of cans to go with it the listening quality it phenomenal. The only bad thing is I'm now stuck going through all my cd's again and reripping them lol 128kb mp3's used to seem fine to me

there's much worse things that computer hobbyists waste money on tbh
see SSDs, see 8GB of RAM for gaming.
SSD price difference over say a very fast platter HDD like a Samsung F3 for what, a few seconds faster loading time...c'mon man. SSDs and 8GB + RAM is only truly useful for image editing and server applications.

This. You begin to become an impulsive buyer. You see something for very cheap and go " I have to have it!!!". Sure, if I had the money I would buy these things, but do I need it? Not in the slightest.
