Is it possible to Crossfire a 5870 6 edition with a reference 5850?

Is it possible to crossfire a 5870 Eyefinity 6 edition (2GB vRam) with a reference 5850 (1GB vRam)?

I know its possible with a reference 5870 but I'm not sure if the Eyefinity 6 edition is any different.

If so, will anything be bottlenecked? Will the 5870 have to downclock itself?

I believe the 2gb ram and 1gb ram difference pose a problem. Im not sure though cuz they have the same mem bandwidth I guess at 256 bit. Someone else will know better than me on this though.

Actually now that I think about it the memory shouldn't make a diff since the bandwidth is the same. I guess you will be using a total of 1gb of RAM tough.

I could try to sell off my HD 5850 if anything. But is 5850 to 5870 even much of an upgrade? Probably not worth it now that I think about it.

I'll pass on the Newegg shell shocker then. It was tempting. lol.

Yes they will crossfire, Any of the 5xxx series xfire with each other, You can Xfire a 5850 and a 5870 no problem, You will only have 1bg vram tho because thats what the 5850 is running.
The only bottleneck i can think of is if you are running eyefinity where the extra vram is needed but for your 1920x1080 monitor you should be set with 1gb and xfire plus you can use afterburner to oc the cards to match clock speeds.

Found the link i was looking for.

Yeah, i wouldn't bother with it. You can find some open box 5850's between 150-175 on most days. Just pick up one of those if you really wanna crossfire. But I know, those deals can be very tempting.

What kind of clocks do you get out of your 5850?
