Xonar STX- Connecting a subwoofer?

Thread Starter
I am planning on buying a Xonar STX, but I am not sure how I will connect a dedicated subwoofer to the card. Currently I am using one of these amplifiers and a pair of AV123 ELT525M monitors. I would like to add a dedicated subwoofer in the future, but I am not sure how I will connect it to this setup. Any thoughts/suggestions?

It's not that type of card. Sub has to connected to the ld pamp, or to a receiver running from spdif out from the card.

Some powered subs have RCA inputs and outputs, but since you're using a stereo amp with passive speakers I don't think you can simply add a sub to your current setup.

I have the same card with powered speakers M-Audio BX5a Deluxe, I use RCA from card to XLR speaker, to add a powered sub, I could use either RCA out from the sub or a 1/4 headphone to RCA stereo from the card

Maybe you could run it like this:

Xonar STX -> Powered Sub-woofer -> Amplifier -> Passive Bookshelves

I don't see why that wouldn't work, but please don't take my word for it. Someone else here has to know better than I. Of course this setup limits you to powered subs only.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping there was a way to configure the sound card to output one of the channels as a subwoofer channel. Are the inputs/outputs configurable on the card like they are on some on board audio solutions?

If you go to ASUS' website you can actually download and save a copy of the owners manual for this card that way none of your options and info are second-hand.
