Becouse of better clock per clock performance..

Q9550 has SSE 4.1 instruction set which also helps..

CHEERS..

Better clock for clock performance. I was actually very curious about this too, so I downclocked my e8500 (compared to my e6600) to 2.33 GHz to check. Sure enough, my e8500 @ 2.33 GHz beat my e6600 @ 2.4 GHz. Did the same thing with my old Q9550 compared to a friend's Q6600, Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz, Q9550 @ 2.33 GHz, and Q9550 won. I used both synthetic benchmarks, video rendering tests, a Photoshop performance benchmark, and a couple of unscientific runs in GTA IV and Red Faction Guerilla. Long story short, noticeable real-world performance boost.

Throw in the fact that these chips are capable of 3.6 GHz and most are 4.0 GHz capable and you've a very strong reason to go 45nm.

I probably can't afford this upgrade until about another year down the road, so my E8400 will have to do for now. Thanks for all the help guys! +repped

The e8400 is still a good chip. It may lack two cores, but especially at the speed you have now, I find it hard to believe it'd lag in any game.

I seriously doubt MOST could tell a difference in a real world blind test. Seriously doubt. Don't miss that BLIND test part...

What games are you having problems with with the E8400? I had that chip for awhile, its a beast, I recently got my q9550 new from newegg, and love it to death. games like gta4 run smooth as butter, along with bbc2.

I can say the only games i had trouble with with the E8400 was gta4 and bbc2, thats it.
