Looking to upgrade

Thread Starter
As the title says I may be looking to upgrade. I have two questions, The first, is it worth it to upgrade now or, should I wait for the next series of cards? Money isn't an issue so I've been looking at the gtx 570 and 580. So would it worth the extra $$ for the 580? My second question, is my psu good enough to handle a 580 since the recommended is 600w and I am going to be OCing my processor soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's critical to know what you're looking for to answer that question. I'm happy with playing every game I can find on max settings @1920x1200 with >60fps 98% of the time. If that sounds good to you, I think you'll love the GTX570 like I do. Even Crysis beats 40-45fps 95% of the time, and 40fps in Crysis seems to feel like 60 for some reason. I've never had a 580, but it only strikes me as being worth it if you have a x1600 monitor or you just love benchmarking records.

I don't think there is any point in trying to future-proof, because it seems like cards are still rapidly improving DX11 support, and this ramp-up will likely continue for a few generations. If you've been happy with your 295 you may want to wait for tessellation improvements next-gen, but this gen is still pretty new so you'd be waiting a little bit.

Hi.

The GPU upgrate is a good idea, the GTX295 is a solid GPU, but a little old now.

Regarding the PSU, with 750W is more that enough, since the recommended PSU is for the entire system.

Thanks, yeah that does sound nice. I'm mainly looking to upgrade so I can play BF3 smoothly and get everything close to max but since we don't know any of the requirements that's a bit problematic =P
