This is for a replacement for my White Whale. Obviously a fairly low-end gaming rig. I don't really care about spending more $$ to have a big upgrade there, but I think my old 8800GTS is starting to die. Just want a replacement, not (much of) an upgrade, but something new.

If its a DDR5, it will perform on par or faster. If its a DDR3, the 8800GTS is going to be faster but it won't matter much for a secondary rig. The GT 240 has many other benefits over the 8800GTS 320MB by using less power, produces less heat, and DX10.1.

get a 5770.

edit: read the wrong gpu.

a 240 is around the same as 9600gt which is really similar to 8800gts. Plus you get less power draw and heat.

What a fail..

The GT240 is almost twice as powerful as the 9600gt..
