I'm partial to the ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme because that's what I have, and it's by far the best AMD board out there. It's $299 so it just depends on your price range...

I willing to spend about $150 and it has to use ddr2 memory.

Your not going to have to make the jump to ddr3 if you want a decent AMD board these days.

What board do suggest? The reason I want to stick with ddr2 is because I won't have the money for memory.

Find MA-790X-UD4P board used
KING of AM2+ boards
if you find one you win, it'll not even come close to $150
post #8 of 19
There are no AM3 boards that support DDR2 on Newegg, it's outdated....and I honestly wouldn't bother looking anywhere else online for computer parts. You can however, get a cheap AM3 mobo with a 4gb Dual channel DDR3 kit and overclock it to provide better performance that 6gb DDR2. Lots of budget options out there, $150 bucks can go a long way.

You could get an ASRock 870 Extreme3 for ~90 bucks. ASRock is the ASUSTek Budget brand.

Another viable option is the ASUS M4A77TD, it has less cool stuff than the ASRock, but it still supports dual crossfire at (8x/8x).
This board is $65 after MIR.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131603

4gb(2x2gb) DDR3 1333mhz(PC10666) dual channel kit for $45
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231274

Price Range for these Mobo+RAM combos: $110-$135

There are an excessive amount of options out there, and any Mobo recommendation is going to be VERY Bias...I personally like ASUS, so i recommend them. MSI boards are in the same price range, and some Gigabyte boards are as well. I really suggest using new-egg power search to limit your options and just take the time to read and compare. Don't trust all the reviews tho, read them for sure, but defiantly read between the lines.

BIOSTAR TA890FXE is one of the best AMD boards out. It's got overclocking records left and right and it's great if you're only crossfiring 2 cards or if you're like me and want to crossfire 2 triple slot cards.

xMunchies: Sad generic RAM recommendation is sad
When this performance option costs less than half the price: Kingston HyperX Blu 1600 CL9 2x2GB - $45, $20 AR

Though 2x2GB or 4x2GB would be a massive improvement over 3x2GB due to proper dual channel
