What's a good motherboard? - Page 2

I agree, sell the ddr2, buy a Biostar TA890FXE ($135 ish) or Asus M4N75TD ($100 ish) and buy the ram kit ^^ up there! The Biostar is a great board (so i hear)...

EDIT: XD... Ripjaws is generic? I mean 1333 is not great, but generic?

When this performance option costs less than half the price: Kingston HyperX Blu 1600 CL9 2x2GB - $45, $20 AR

Though 2x2GB or 4x2GB would be a massive improvement over 3x2GB due to proper dual channel
I am running 8gbs now fixed my clearance issue, so it's stupid to be using ddr2?

Generic IC's man....has nothing to do with brand. Poor clocking memory chips suck no matter what name you put on them.

You right, but they are called AM2+ mobo. AM3 mobo only support DDR3. An AM3 cpu can run on an AM2+ mobo.

All those posts about memory just made me realize what lines like 2000mhz(O.C)/1600mhz(O.C)/1333mhz actually mean....I always thought it meant you had to overclock a 1333 but now I see it just means you need to change settings to make the other sticks work. Just saved me from buying generic with my Crosshair IV Formula...definatly snagging those Kingston's instead, I'm sure with MemOK feature it will be a joke to install.

Anyway this post isn't about helping me, even tho it did....
Thanks to dixson mentioning AM2+ there still may be hope for your DDR2 needs.
Here's a list of AM2+ Socket Mobo's
This list is narrowed down to only mobos with 4 RAM slots to fit your 8gb.
Ironically the mobo I would recommend from that list is the one you already have..one of the MSI boards would be a good alternative tho. I hate Biostar because I've had to re-solder mine in a few places over the last 6 years and flashing it was such a drag...but it did last 6 years none the less.

On a side-note: DDR2 isn't stupid....it's just slower, the highest possible DDR2 is 1200mhz; whereas, the lowest DDR3 is 1333mhz.

Well.... the CAS latency has alot to do with how fast the memory is as well.... makes a huge difference on AMD too. 1600 memory at CAS9 is going to be "slower" than 1333 at CAS7.... the difference between 1600 and 1333 at the same CAS is small. That is what i remember from the research i did when i was looking for DDR2. Also, that Biostar board is a really good board, not all Biostars are the same quality, just like not all Asus boards are.... if you buy the cheap model of any manufacturer it will be just that.... cheap. That Crosshair IV is and awesome board, but it also costs alot more....

I was just thinking about going with the same board I already have. Even though I would like to make the switch to ddr3, I just simply dont finds for it. And I need to some better troubleshooting to see if the board is bad.

No it isn't stupid at all, it is just that it is getting really hard to find the ddr2 motherboards and we are just saying it seems silly to spend $150 on a ddr2 motherboard, when you can spend a little more and have the newer technology that will able to be used later. You might want to look for a used board from someone on here in the For Sale section....
EDIT: it is also faster to just use 2 sticks of memory and go dual channel, when you put the 3rd or 4th stick in the speed goes down quite a bit. Some boards will say the max speed is lower with 4 sticks in there.

Did you buy the board new? If so, when did you buy it.... could it still be under warranty.... some have 3-5yr warranty?
