Criticize a newbs first build.

OK guys, my first build and first post, so bear with me.
I am working on building a new rig, primarily for gaming. This is my first build so I've been lurking around here on the forums for a few weeks trying to decide which way to go. My original plan was to wait for the sandy bridge boards, but i think i'd rather just get this show on the road, and maybe upgrade in a year or two. Due to the awesome deals lately geared towards AMD setups, i decided to give it a shot and see what happens.

Here is what i have brewing.

Case: NZXT Phantom - white
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146067
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139021
Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131402
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808
GPU: XFX HD-695X-ZNDC Radeon HD 6950 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150524
RAM: Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104223

The only things i really need to get yet is a new hard drive.
I was thinking Samsung F3 1TB.
http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=HD-HD103SJ
But, i do still have an old 160GB spinpoint. (about 6 yrs. old tho)

maybe a new burner, but those are a dime a dozen, and my old one still works.

and a CPU cooler, not a clue what to get here. I've looked at quite a few. kinda like the Zalmans (decently priced ), also drooling over a few Noctua's, and of course the H70.
What do you guys recommend for cooling , without going overboard, if i was to push this sucker up to about 4.0 Ghz(maybe less, idk) 24/7.

So, how solid does this build look to you?
What are your thoughts on my choice of GPU?
Would you recommend anything different?

Thanks in advance.

Dont cheap out on your mobo an the F3 is quite good i been usin mine since beginin of jan an its pulled its weight xD
post #4 of 35
It looks pretty solid to me
It won't disapoint you until your next upgrade.
If you plan to overclock, you will be better of with WC, hence the H70, IMO.
As for the GPU, for that price you don't really have much to choose from, it is faster than a GTX560 Ti.

I would choose this RAM kit though

Nice spec, looks like it will tide you over! Are you not tempted to wait for Bulldozer however before getting all this new?

I ended up "cheaping out" on my mobo and cpu because i plan on updating in the near future, just didn't want to wait anymore.
The ASUS M4A79XTD EVO seemed to be a pretty solid board, and at that price i couldn't refuse.
Also, because i plan on overclocking anyway, i couldn't really justify spending the extra 20 on the CPU since its the same chip just clocked faster out of the box. The extra 20 went toward the GPU.

good suggestions tho, keep em coming.

and yes, i was VERY tempted to wait for bulldozer.....but...eh

At first i wanted to keep it sub $1k. I'm at about 750ish right now.
The only thing that isn't purchased yet is a cooler, burner, and a HD. Everything else is either sitting in front of me, or will be here in a day or two hopefully.
at this point, the budget isn't an issue. I just don't want to totally overkill anything. and i want to leave room for improvements in the future.

that was what i was going to do originally...awesome deal there. actuallly tried to pick that up yesterday but they were sold out.
I picked up the ram in my original post from a local shop for $40
saving the extra 15 woulda been nice, but i decided to just buy it local, pretty much just because i know the owner.

any other thoughts on coolers?
