Mobo sux, no usb3, no sata 3. and PCIe = 2 (one x16 or dual x8 link). So yeah not great.
But some of the other choices were good.

edit; ewww white case.... go black!!111
white reminds me of the 80's all PC's were white / cream colored.

No, the mobo doesn't "sux."

Most people would consider a 8x8x board with such great OCing features and great heat-sinking on 8+2 VRMs at that price to be an incredible purchase. You'd pay MORE for an 870 with similar performance and not get half the quality on the power supplies/sinking. An OCing enthusiast would much rather have those solid VRMs than USB3/SATA3.

It has been demonstrated that PCI-E-8X is plenty of bandwidth for GPUs operating in SLI/CF. For most cards, the losses are only a few percent compared with 16X; -Unless you are in the top tier cards going SLI/CF (which you would never do on an AMD build because you would bottleneck at the CPU) there is no significant need.

There's a reason these boards sold out so fast at that price. The real world doesn't see a need for faster USB/SATA. Those interfaces are NOT the bottleneck for hardly ANY systems out there.

good points on the Mobo.

on the case, my first choice was black...but everything comes black nowadays.(my pc, monitor, keyboard, mouse, laptop, desk, tv, tv stand, celphone, etc.) i want this to stand out, so when someone walks in the reaction is . wth is that?!?
and it has that effect, i love this case.

edit: I don't plan on running crossfire or SLI with this Mobo

Is there any real difference between the 955 and the 965 other than the 965's multiplier being at 17 and the 955's at 16? I had the 955 and was able to raise it to 17 to get 3.4 without any raise in voltage, and I had the C2 step. I think I would rather save the 20 dollars and raise the multiplier myself.

The mobo far from "sux". USB3 and SATAIII won't be used by 80% of the users coming here for build requests. 8x-8x vs 16x-16x doesn't matter until you use GTX 570. White case is his choice, sometimes white case isn't all too bad. Actually, heck, aren't 99% of all computer cases now black? Do something different!

@OP Get the M4A79XTD EVO + GTX 560 Ti combo deal, and hopefully M4A79XTD EVO is back in stock soon.

I honestly can not tell the difference between my gpu's at x8 x8 or at x16. x16, x8 isn't bad...

I am working on building a new rig, primarily for gaming. This is my first build so I've been lurking around here on the forums for a few weeks trying to decide which way to go. My original plan was to wait for the sandy bridge boards, but i think i'd rather just get this show on the road, and maybe upgrade in a year or two. Due to the awesome deals lately geared towards AMD setups, i decided to give it a shot and see what happens.

Here is what i have brewing.

Case: NZXT Phantom - white
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146067
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139021
Mobo: ASUS M4A79XTD EVO
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131402
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808
GPU: XFX HD-695X-ZNDC Radeon HD 6950 1GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150524
RAM: Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104223

The only things i really need to get yet is a new hard drive.
I was thinking Samsung F3 1TB.
http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=HD-HD103SJ
But, i do still have an old 160GB spinpoint. (about 6 yrs. old tho)

maybe a new burner, but those are a dime a dozen, and my old one still works.

and a CPU cooler, not a clue what to get here. I've looked at quite a few. kinda like the Zalmans (decently priced ), also drooling over a few Noctua's, and of course the H70.
What do you guys recommend for cooling , without going overboard, if i was to push this sucker up to about 4.0 Ghz(maybe less, idk) 24/7.

So, how solid does this build look to you?
What are your thoughts on my choice of GPU?
Would you recommend anything different?

Thanks in advance.
The overall build is really good. Good job

As for cooling: do you care about a large chunk of metal and fans hanging off mobo and/or blocking view of components? Some people worry about the large amount of weight ~1kg. that the high-end air coolers weigh. Other times, people (such as me) like to see more of their components through their case window and prefer something like an H50/70. In your instance, your case doesn't have a window. And unless you plan on modding the panel, you won't see the internal components anyway. Perhaps a big air cooler like several of Noctua's high end offerings are more to your liking.

On the subject of the Corsair H50 and H70 -- they're both great water coolers. However, if you add up the cost of two good fans to strap onto the H70, you're approaching or surpassed $150. For that price, the RASA 360 is a much better idea (wish I would have known about it at the time I got my H70 ). $150 for a water cooling kit with 360 rad will keep your proc far cooler than an H50 or H70, at the expense of a tad more set up and maintenance. The benefits outweigh the cons though.

And then of course, there's always the Hyper 212+. The best cooler you can get for $30. Awesome deal and performance.

Lol. In other words, spend twenty dollars more on the same CPU.
Yeah. Forget 965, if you want to spend $20 more or so go full-on and get the 1055T for only another $9 more.
With $7.56 shipping back on Hyper 212... Hyper 212 price has returned to a ripoff. price on Newegg. Don't buy it. Zalman CNPS10X $40, $30 AR would be better, cost nearly same with free shipping, and cost lower after rebate.

You nailed it. This is the kind of info i need.
I don't really care what the thing looks like, can't see in there really anyways.
Just don't want to end up burning up the CPU.
I'm leaning more towards a Noctua, but then again idk.
How do you draw the line, and decide weather or not to go WC.
maybe a WC setup would be better in the long run too?, it can always be transferred to another board.
