Is there anything in the near (next 5 yrs) horizon for a great leap forward?

Thread Starter
Just wondering if there's anything revolutionary for the near future in processor tech that would allow cpu's, gpu's and any other kind of pu's to take a great, if not quantum leap forward. The kind of leap i'm hoping for, at the very minimum, is one that would allow a general purpose cpu to undertake in software the kind of specialized operations we have in a current dx11 gpu and create the same kind of performance. Another comparison would be the speed difference between ram and mechanical drives. That kind of stark difference that leaves its opponent in the dust. Is there any indication that it will happen or is it purely speculation?

*Tick* *Tock* Just wait for the Intel clock to run. So yes probably.

And Graphene has no off state so use in CPUs is not likely in the next 5 years.

This great leap forward you speak of exists today...but it won't be found in mainstream technology for a loooooong time. Government has technologies that's far beyond what we consumers use. IMHO.

Intel should be dipping under the 10nm process.

Then we will see some crazy procs that might not even need a Heatsink
