Will an Athlon II X4 635 bottleneck a GTX 560?

I heard the only difference between it and Phenom II was the lack of an L3 cache.

I'm having trouble keeping a steady 60 FPS in dragon age in some of the open areas (1080p resolution) and I'm wondering if an upgrade from a 460 768mb to a 560 could make that possible or if it's more based on my CPU.

If you've got it clocked to 3.5GHz or higher, then no...not a bottleneck.

On Dragon Age? Not a lot of variables, I think model quality is maxed though as well as 8x Anti-aliasing.

I get fps too, especially in a certain snowy temple I'm not going to accidently spoil :/

Game's fault though I think, things start disappearing and re-appearing :/ clocked at 3.8Ghz

Use gpu-z and look at your gpu usage while playing, if it is dipping from 99% a lot you have a bottleneck. Dragon age is a very cpu intensive game, it's very likely your gpu isn't being used to its full potential because of your cpu. That being said people are going to come in and say "If it plays fine its not a bottleneck" This is untrue as a bottleneck is simply when one component prevents another from running at its optimal speed.

Not true. Playing Killing Floor, my GPU sits at about 20-25% usage. My CPU is sitting at like 20% usage, clocked at 1.1GHz (Cool N Quiet).

It all depends on the game. You can't use that 99% usage thing as fact, when it depends entirely on the game.

Killing floor is based on a very old engine, any modern game should be hitting 99%. I suppose you are right about it not being true in all cases but in the case of dragon age which the topic is about it is very much true.

That's very true. I've never played Dragon Age. But I can say without a doubt that unless its an absolutely crappy port (GTA IV), then his Athlon II 635 won't be a bottleneck as long as its clocked high enough.

The game does utilize 4 threads so I honestly don't know if hes getting a bottleneck or not, I was just letting him know a method of seeing whether or not his cpu is holding his gpu back. It's really only when we get to the games that are only utilizing 2-3 threads that AMD bottlenecks start to occur with high end video card setups.

Edit: I didn't realize he was running only a 460, in that case its likely there isn't a bottleneck in dragon age. Or if there is one it wont be enough to really warrant a cpu/gpu upgrade. For some reason I was thinking he had a higher end card.
