Do phones always use wifi for data if connected?

Thread Starter
I'm wondering if my new HTC Inspire automatically defaults to using wifi whenever it is connected, for email, web, and everything else?

and also, why do people worry about downloading apps instead of sideloading when they have wifi readily available?

It should, yes. I see a significant increase in browser speed on wifi on my Android phone. It should be the same on all Android phones.

If it connects to a wifi connection it should automatically turn off mobile data, I think this is a feature for people is a country like australia where data is so darned expensive

EDIT if you have wifi, go crazy with downloading anything you want. If you are on 3g with a limited data plan, watch what you use. If you have unlimited as with the wifi go crazy

yes it does that automatically on droid2, it should be in your connections settings, you can set the option to connect to wifi automatically.
