Amping headphones?

So I'v been hearring that you have to amp headphones like mine grados sr 80. why?

Um...the SR80? Not really unless you're running those out of a portable player then depending on the power output of your player, you might need an amplifier. Otherwise, it's really not necessary if you're running them out of a decent sound card.

People need to stop with the "every headphone needs an amplifier" bullcrap.

Off a pc or most electronic appliances, sr80s will be more than fine, though off smaller portable electronics, a small improvement will be heard in volume and quality due to the power output of the devices.

I personally own some sr80is and i use a little fiio amp when I use them with my ipod, which marginally improves volume and quality, though off my soundcard, decks or guitar amp I don't use anything

Grado's are one of the few headphones that don't really benefit much at all from amping. They will benefit much more from a higher quality source than a powerful amp.
