To use my Receiver, Onboard or ST/X?

I am getting a new Receiver for my living room and will recycle my current receiver to the office. I use an Onkyo HTR667 (the one that came with the HTS 6100, its essentially a Onkyo 606)

I want to be able to use my newly purchased Sennheiser HD 555's, and still be able to use my 2.1 and 5.1 set up.

However, if I am going to use my receiver, can I skip the sound card and just use the on board audio from my mobo?

My sig mobo comes with this audio chipset:
VIA VT2020:
SupremeFX X-Fi HD audio CODEC
EAX Advanced HD 4.0
X-Fi CMSS 3D
X-Fi Crystalizer
Creative ALchemy

It has SPDIF out. Would my onkyo be okay with that or should I still get a sound card. Maybe a cheap Xonar DG.

If it goes digital out it will just bypass pretty much everything. I use a Prelude with a spdif out however EAX 5 is pass via the digital on this card.

So skip the soundcard purchase? Would my Sennheiser HD 555 sound the same through the Onkyo receiver?
