Not true, you can play it any way you like. only when you start doing raids and endgame stuff do you really need to focus on rotations.

Also, WoW is not a $100 investment up front. It's $20. You do not need to buy all the expansions right away. just buy the base game since you can level to 60 on it. I also agree with doing the trial. Only certain features are blocked, and none of them are necessary to see if you like the feel of a game.

Rift is also very good. I played in 3 of the closed beta sessions and the open beta and loved it. Very very polished for a beta. It plays similar enough to WoW that I had no troubles picking it up right away. I also much prefer the class system in Rift to the one in WoW. much more variable (Aka instead of there being 3 trees for rogue, there are 6-8 and are completely interchangeable at any given time (out of combat) with a huge variety of abilities that i wont go into detail about)

Either of them are worth a try.

I have given up on MMO's, but I will play Guild Wars 2 and if for some reason I don't like that I don't expect to be playing any MMO's in the next 5-10 years.

Eh, I think you just need to find the right MMO. For me the right MMO's are super hero MMO's. I don't need to waste a millennium to get anywhere in the game. I play them more casually than seriously. They don't take me ages to get to the max level and they also don't require me to play them as a second job. You should try super hero MMO's, they're a lot more fun and casual. The less item management I have to do the better it is.

MMO's like WoW and Rift are too hardcore for me. And I hate grinding, I quit Lineage II years ago. That game could've been great but NCSOFT decided it was a good idea to make people grind their bones away to the marrow. No more Korean MMO's for me.

Try out Champions Online, it's free and more casual and doesn't require you to play it as a second job.

I might try that but will wait for probably a month or two and see if it gets decent reviews by people who play the game.

Also waiting (more or less hoping) on mortal online to have an NA server since that is probably the last good MMO I have played in a very long time.

It's a shame APB turned into garbage, that game was shaping up to be pretty good (although extremely repetitive more or less).

I would say go with Rift. It's $50 right now, but you don't feel like you're behind on any of the content because it is a new game.

Because WoW is now 3 xpacs in, the community is all at level 85, doing level 85 things. You'll be very hard pressed to do anything at level 60 if you dont have money right away to buy the next expansion.. and it's pretty much like that all the way until 85.

I've played WoW for 5 years or so, and I recently tried Rift. Honestly, it takes the things that are good from WoW but I was so tired of that type of game that I won't be playing either anymore.

My vote is for Rift.

Glass in my eyes comes to mind. Only space game I liked was X3, couldn't stand eve for whatever reason though.
