Dead/Overheating 1090T

Thread Starter
Bought a 1090T from eBay, description mentioned
"left attached to the motherboard for obvious reasons"
Clearly he was assuming that I wouldn't remove the stock heatsink which is terrible and replace it with a Hyper 212 (This is a budgetbuild)

As I opened the package, all looked well. Unclamped the stock cooler and released it as per usual, however the CPU came straight off with it. Stuck to the bottom of the stock heatsink the CPU took vigorous effort (Imagine when you just can't open a jar) to ease up, it finally came off.

I replaced the stock cooler with the Hyper212, installed all the components on the motherboard on the motherboard box to check all was good, like standard.

I turn on the system, no signal on screen. Roughly 10-15 seconds later the powersupply cuts itself off, the chip so hot it leaves a albiet, small blister on the tip of my finger. Hotter than touching a boiling kettle on a stove!

Obviously I'm not happy with this and have complained to the seller.

Wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this and any fixes? If I could get around it I'll keep the chip as the price was reasonable and I require it for business ASAP.

I have tried my 1100T on the exact same rig (Simply switched CPUs) and it runs fine, as per usual.
Tried the 1090T in another MB, same problem.

Thanks Overclock.net

At this point I would check for broken pins. But I don't think it's worth it, that CPU is deader than a doornail.

The seller will refund me, got it through eBay and they have reasonable buyer protection, note that this happened the FIRST TIME I booted the system with it.

No broken pins, I guess it's time to dispute.

RMA to AMD. They have an AWESOME RMA service. They will replace broken pins as long as you have under 4. They also pay for ground shipping.

I'm not quite sure that I can RMA since I purchased it second hand, no reciept.

Big, not nice.
seconds hand shouldn't matter on a CPU.

Any idea on AMD's RMA time? My business is computer based, for every day of not having it set up, £80 goes down the drain.
