Yes, 295s in quad sli is the supreme rendering dream!
It will scale perfectly, run 256xSS AA, be cold as an ice cube and faster than 580gtx in 8 way sli!
DX11 is for losers!
You've convinced me!
I'll go right now sell my Thermis and get me a pair of 295s too!

P.S.: I might even get me a god old Pentium 4 while I'm at it! i7 is overrated!
While I a hesitant to join the rage war here ... I do want to point out that a 295 is vastly cheaper than a 580 at this point and there are pretty much no games out yet that really use DX11 to more than a very minor extent. DX11 is still in a very early stage. Hell the gaming world hasnt even fully embraced DX10 yet. Real DX11 games are a ways off and IMO you would be making a poor financial decision if you invested greatly in the fist generation of DX11 video cards ... cards that came out before any real DX11 games even exist.

If you want to have high frames for less money go quad SLI with 2 295s. If you want to spend more for something that can remder DX11 to a minimum extent then get some 580s

DX11 is in a very early state. Any DX11 GPU you buy now will not be able to keep up with any real DX11 games once fully realized DX11 games come out. I think those of u who are against the 295 already know this.

2) OF COURSE QUAD-SLI WILL BEAT A SINGLE 580. What you don't seem to grasp is DX11 isn't just new and shiny. If you watched the Unigine Heaven benchmark and didn't notice the difference between DX10 and DX11, I'd be worried.

Your dedicated. It's obvious. Get the other 295, have great benches, have bad gaming. No matter how many screenshots, review or benchmarks anybody posts, you will not be satisfied.

I think the only head-to-head you can do is to find someone here that has 2 580's, and you buy the second 295, then compare. But what do I know. I'm not a professional.

Btw, even at 1080p, YouTube looks ugly compared to in person. Can't really make an informed comparison with their compressed files. And I don't think the Step-Up works there
Thanks

I have narrowed it down to this final factor that inhibits me from deciding.

In my Country a GTX 580 would cost me 450-499€ + 87€ Waterblock that adds to a price at least 540-580€+ .

Another GTX 295 will only cost me around 100 - 140€ + 2 Waterblocks for 119€ each=> 380€

We have a 200€ difference here.

Note that I will dispose of the card/cards anyway when Kepler arrives.
Also bare in mind that I want the best gaming performance (fps) and still smooth gameplay.

I could afford both but what would be the best way to go?

I'd still say go for the new cards...but not because their DX11, that's the last thing I was thinking about. The sheer performance from the Fermi cards surpasses the older series. I wouldn't get a 580 just for the fact it's a 580, because it would be less stress on the loop and no possible driver/SLI issues to deal with.

I think a lot of the people on OCN are not on very limited budgets so they will pretty much always rep the newer faster more expensive things ... when it comes to value you can hardly go wrong with a 295 right now. Though I will say this ... SLI is something that should be avoided when possible. SLI creates driver issues ... more settings to config and micro stuttering. But I will also say this ... My system plays BC2 like a F****ing champ.

Some games do not evel support SLI but u will find that these games dont need it.

Personally I would not invest an any current DX11 GPU because nvidia has promised massive performance per watt improvments when it releases its next series of GPUs. I think the next round of Nvidia/ATI GPUs will be when ppl can really start to think about a serious DX11 card. For now DX11 is just for bragging rights. It has little to no practical use but in the future it will be amazing.

Yes if price were not an issue. However Id say a 295 is currently a much better value.

This thread wouldn't be 20 pages long if the OP hadn't asked for advice he clearly wasn't prepare to take.

He asked which is better, a 2nd 295 or 580. When people told him the 580 all he has done is argue with them, telling people they are too expensive, or there's no performance difference, etc, etc, etc.

So, why bother creating a thread in the first place if you don't want to hear advice that you asked for?

He also thought he could get a 2nd 295 for $50, and when we told him that wasn't happening, he also argued that point. Guess how much the auction ended up at? 180 EUR.

One post he says he can afford both, in another post he says the 580 is way too expensive, so which one is it? clearly he can't afford the 580, so just go for another 295 and stop asking so many questions.

This is just like that other thread where he asked for opinions on the 6990 vs 590, and then he ended up bashing both half way through the thread.
