That's the first thing I thought of after the first posting. Plumber's tape would work easliy to solve the fitting issue. The tape itself is less that $1 at Lowes.

i had the ek multioption and was using compression fittings just fine

try rescrewing/reseating it...

don't go too deep and damage/weaken the wall.

I'd give teflon tape a shot before I got to cutting/sanding

I will cut it the same way they have it on the other res, how can that be a problem ? if they can do it, I can too!
