We were impressed enough with Intel’s Sandy Bridge architecture that we awarded the Core i5-2500K our coveted Recommended Buy award. Just north of $200, that’s a solid value. But it’s not Intel’s flagship. That honor goes to the new Core i7-990X Extreme.

lol i think we already knew the flagship was the 990x. It's not like a $200 chip can compete with an extreme $1000 cpu.

Great review but for me i can't justify the price tag, it would be useless for me as i mainly game

Seems pretty similar to Apple's strategy.

Wait, so the 6c/12t with an extra .04ghz is slower than the 4c/8t?

Is it the architecture that makes the difference?

id say architecture and most programs besides hardcore graphics encoders dont really utilize the 12 threads.... hence a 2600k for ~ 320 bucks; or even the 2500k ~ 200 bucks is in my eyes the best buy for gamers and such that want to be on the highest clock for buck path

Why did it take them so long?

Why intel, why?...
I think Intel accidentally made too good of a processor when they designed SB.
