The 970/980/990 CPU's aren't about speed, they're about multitasking.

So it's the architecture of the CPU that makes the difference in this case? That's what I was initially wondering

And hence why I jokingly postulated the conspiracy theory that the recall has nothing to do with defective parts but rather Intel trying to find a way not to canabalize their own sales. So they will release new motherboards that have the ability to reduce performance on sandy bridge CPUs. LOL. JK.

I agree. AMD doesn't have anything to offer that can come close at this price point.

Thanks. Thanks alot.

Now when I move to SB, your post will be hanging in the back of my mind.

Nice one Only reason this bothers me is because it might be possible, even if the chip fix 'accidently' altered performance
post #18 of 129

Didn't like the review of the 990x, the i7-2600k is extremely close & only $340, so why bother?

I'll still be using my i5-570 for many years to come probably, unless AMD's Bulldozer is all that and a bag of chips, I'll be waiting for Ivy Bridge, while Sandy Bridge is an extremely nice performance monster, my i5-750 will do me just fine.

30% more performance isn't what I consider a huge leap forward.

When I see 60+% More Performance at stock over the i5-750 then I may be tempted to make the switch..

Till then, Imma Be Imma Be....

Using Intel’s retail DBX-B, I was able to push the Core i7-990X to 4.4 GHz at stock voltage.
That is damn impressive.
