boot hangs after installing Intel RST & alignment questions

As the title says, it just hangs on the "Windows is starting" screen. I had to reinstall Windows completely.
I have a single Samsung Spinpoint F4 320GB and it's set to AHCI, connected on the SATA III port #0.
Maybe it's because I've done an UEFI installation of Windows 7 64-bit?
I know there is a noticable performance difference between the Windows 7 and the Intel RST drivers, but this is with SSDs. What about HDs? Should I just leave the default drivers?

About the alignment, how do I check if Windows 7 is aligned correctly with 4k sectors (also called advanced format)? I think it should do it automaticaly but I would like you guys to confirm it.
Thanks.

Aligning the partition for 4K sectors isn't an issue in Windows 7 (or in Vista), only XP and older have problems.

About the Intel RST, until a few months ago I had an Intel PC w/ the Intel SSD in the sig, and still didn't see any performance advantage to using Intel's drivers. Maybe on other combos the performance increases with them, but on my rig it made no difference. Also, if by any chance you have updated to 7's SP1 you should wait for updated drivers targeted specifically @ SP1 - I'm having some issues now with the sound driver on a rig (freeze/bsod/reboot) after installing SP1. Imho there's no particular reason to using RST on a HDD anyway, but if you want to wait for an updated version.
