Can someone with a d-14 and a heat probe check something real quick please?

Please put the heat probe in the middle of the block (from which the heatpipes start)while the system is loading and post your temp reading from temp sensor and actual load temps reported by software.

Reason?

The top of my block, about 6mm above the cpu cores is reading 30c(at load), same as the heatpipes(measured both center and side pipes, outer 29c, mid 30c). Yet apparently my cpu temp at load in small FFT is 75c.. I don't buy that. So I am trying to use any data I collect here (hopefully) to identify my real core temp roughly. Needless to say all temp testing was done 10 minutes into a prime95 small fft load.

The reason why i tested this is that i took the heatsink off for a reseat about 1 minute after i sucessfully completed an 8 hour blend run that loaded at 76c and the heatsink was not warm at all. Even my 965 BE heated up my heatsink more than that and its load temps were literally 20c cooler.

You do have it at 1.45V man so those temps are perfectly normal. and what software are you using to monitor temperatures.

Using RealTemp 3.67

How do you know? Do you have Sandy Bridge?

Let me show you an example:

OC3D reviewed the 2500k and they had to use 1.560v for 5ghz stable. Under the d-14 air cooler the cores stayed under 76c. Source:

1. Each cpu is different in terms of leakage. They may be at different temps at the same voltage.
2. Do you know the ambient temps in both cases? The barometric pressure? Humidity? They all affect performance.
3. Most importantly, the temperature probes on Intel processors are not calibrated to report "temperatures" per se, they are calibrated to report distance from TJ Max. A side effect of this is though projected temps may be precise, they are not necessarily accurate and should not be used to compare temps between different processors like you are doing.

That's fine, I just need a temperature reading from the top of the d-14 cpu block during load. I didn't claim any of the things that you think you are correcting me on, try not to get your panties in a bunch. I was merely wondering why an i7 920 owner is commenting on a different architecture that he probably knows less than I do about. I'm not saying I know alot, but I know about it more than him, I own the damn thing and read about it quite often.
