HMDI Blurry

I'm back and finished my first HTPC build. Specs are Biostar mcp6p 2+ motherboard. AMD Athlon 64x2 5000 Black Edition. 2 gigs of Kingston Hyper ram. 100 gig fujitsu laptop hard drive for now.

Graphics Card I bought just for this purpose.

Model MSI 4350-MD512H/D3
GPU ATI Radeon HD 4350
Memory 512MB DDR3
Bus 64 bits
Output HDMI/DVI/D-Sub

My television is a 46"

My question is when I'm on the desktop it looks blurry large and out of focus. The highest I can adjust resolution to is 600 x 400 or something like that. When I play the sample videos that come with Windows 7 64 bit the wildlife one, it is crystal clear. But the desktop, folders or anything other than video is blurry. I went into CCC and it doesn't have as many options as my HD 4770 in another computer that I have. I went into Device Manager and in display adapters is shows it as Standard VGA something. So I disabled it and now with the driver for it disabled it looks slightly better and I can get 800x600 resolution.

Is this normal? I have never used HDMI before, this is my first time. Also does sound travel through the HDMI connection?

It may be normal, but its definitely not correct.
You should have 1280x720 or 1920x1080 available if it was working correctly. Seems like a driver issue to me though.

I downloaded the latest driver from the website but like I said all it has are profiles, not very many options.

My tv detects it as HDMI 480p, if that means anything?

It's a Magnavox. When I hit the format button on my tv it switches from auto to 4:3 to movie mode to wide screen. On wide screen I got 720p. Also I was reading on the AMD website it says the card requires 10 bit display. What does that mean? When I right clicked and went to change resolution it said it was at 6 bit display and it would not budge. Again all it says is Generic PnP montior and Standard VGA . Thanks for the replies so far +reps.

See if your TV has a noise filter of some sort. You'll need one if you're running a digital signal through HDMI.

sounds driver related...even with an older rear-projection TV if the drivers are right it should recognize the display enough to know to run it at a better resolution than that.

and yes sound is supposed to go through hdmi as well.
