I keep reading that the amd bulldozer is suppose to be more powerful than i7-980X - Page 2

Just read JF-AMD's post on xtremesystems and it seems that the new BD architecture can really scale well with their modules/cores. Hopefully this will translate into real world performance. It's time AMD start being competitive again! I am very excited!

0,5TFLOPS on 4socket server mobo done pretty easy (with 16core -2GHz BD cpus)

but desktop BD 8c would need 15GHz OC for that FLOPS

Isn't the 2600k already about the same as a 980x?

And the 2600k is just a bit more then a 1090T.

So why does the 980x still cost ~$1,000

I don't necessarily agree with that. I remember owning an AMD 3700+ San Diego core that was faster than anything Intel had out at the time. I bought it for $200 and it outperformed all of the $1k P4 EE editions.
