Upgrade Advice

Thread Starter
Hey,

I've recently got a dell u2711 (2560x1440) as a upgrade from my old 22" monitor (1680x1050) and, well, my 5770 is not coping very well with the significantly higher resolution in games

Currently I'm running with a q6600 and a 5770 but I'm planning to upgrade to a sandy bridge as soon as LGA 2011 comes out and I've set aside money for this upgrade.

However, I do have a extra £500 I can spend and I was wondering if it was worthwhile splashing out on a new graphics card now and perhaps going some some SLI/Crossfire when I get around to my lga 2011 build? I thinking perhaps getting a GTX580 now and adding another in SLI when I do the build.

So, basically, what I'm asking is should I either:
- Wait until my LGA 2011 build and stick with my 5770
- Get something like a GTX580 now and buy another with my lga 2011 build for some SLI
- ???

To give you an idea of the types of games I'm looking to play in the future here is what I've already preordered so far:
- Portal 2
- Crysis 2
- Battlefield 3

Thanks
Rig

Don't buy it now. Your processor won't keep up much not unless you overclock more than 3.5Ghz. By the time you set up a new PC it would be better probably price will drop even a little.

Thanks, I was wondering if the CPU would bottleneck it. I've currently got it overclocked to 3.0ghz on air.

gtx580 will be epic! but u will need to wait untill ur build cus the cpu wont cope very well

Get the GTX580 now and SLI later with your SB upgrade.

At that resolution it'll be more taxing on your GPU rather than your CPU.
