2600K (at 4.8) + H70 cooler + prime95, max temps? Arctic matrix vs tuniq tx4? Survey

Just curious what everyone is seeing with this combo for a max temp using realtemp after say at least 28 minutes to maybe 2 hours with prime95 blend.

I'm currently testing (again, had issues with board, swapped, now redoing my overclock and replaced h70 with a new one, thought it was bad)..

After 28 minutes i see a max temp of 80C.. after 2 hours, 82C.. this with ambients at around room temp (22.5C).

My volts are at 1.395 for cpuv and 1.58 for ram (stock 1.5), with LLC to ultra and VRM frequency at 370. Ram currently at only 1333mhz.. i do have a ram cooler blowing down on the ram, because i had one on hand. These temps are usually the case, even with the side panel off, which has a jumbo fan sucking air inward ( i have fans in the front sucking air in and the h70 set to exhaust, though in or out made no diff in temp). Qfan is disabled in the bios (so rpms at 2000+ on fans, 1400+ on pump)

**in my case, i've removed with 91% isop. alcohol the original paste and put on arctic silver matrix (about 100 hours in)..(Arctic Silver Matrix Thixotropic Premium Thermal Compound-2.5G MTX-2.5G is specifically what i have now)

I also have tuniq tx4 coming.. not sure if it would be worth removing and applying this instead?

I have the fans running at full speed, no resistors as of yet, though i think after proving this stable, ill put the resistors on to lower to 1600rpm.. because in real world, ill never hit the temps of prime95 (for flight sim etc).

Any thoughts? I have a another, replacement CPU coming, as i thought my issues were because of a blip in the current one.. and i have the paste coming.. Better to just leave as is or try to swap parts and go for lower volts and temps? I had a different replacement cpu at one point, had it in, noted that it was about 3-5C lower in initial bios temp, but then it too blipped, it kept throwing an led and wouldnt post after this.. so i returned it...

I have no experience with the h70, so keep that in mind but....

With my hyper 212+ I see max max temp around 70 degrees (with similar ambient to you) on the hottest core with my CPU running 4.8 ghz @ 1.38v during extended stress testing with prime or IBT.

I would assume the H70 is quite a bit more efficient than the hyper and you should be seeing max temps closer to 60 degrees (just a guess, I'm sure someone with the same setup will shed some light). Have you tried reapplying the thermal compound, sounds like the application might not be right (too much?).

Note-
My vrm frequency is 300 and my ram is @ 1.5. Why do you have yours at 1.58 when it's only running at 1333?

I upped the ram volts, because i was getting odd reboots out of the blue, no bsod, someone suggested increasing the ram volts.. i will set to 1600mhz as a next step though (16GB 4x4).. And so far they were dead on, i was able to lower the cpuv with the slight increase in ram volts (or maybe it was taking vrm to 370).

I have reapplied the arctic silver a few times.. making sure it was just a grain size etc.. so i'm pretty sure what i'm getting is as good as it gets, short of trying this new cpu and/or the tuniq tx4.

I got a h50 and I'm pumping 1.45 for 4.8ghz and temps hardly break 70c with around room 70-72f ambient so you should be seeing better temps.

I realize prime stresses a bit more but this is just a quick test to see.

My temp results were horrible with my FRIO with both fans on full blast, so i opted for a H70, i am yet to test my 4600 OC and my 5.0 GHz OC to see if temps will be lower on prime blend test, i am hoping they are , if not im going with a rasa 240 kit for a closed loop to the cpu.

One thing you may definitely wanna do that is highly recommended in the H70/H50 owners club is to replace the stock fans on the cooling units, i did this and it made a world of difference, i swapped out the crappy stock fans and tossed on the frio fans (kinda loud on full blast) they have their own fan controller on them so its great for OCing.

When i decide to start OCing this chip again i will update you , i may do it here this weekend when i have more time, i am realllly relucantant to start though because this board (UD7) hates me and likes to be finicky with its BIOS setting.....rolling reboots etc. ha ha but yeah i will keep you posted! Wanted to wait until my as5 passed its cure time but meh...wave2.gif

EDIT: i went with the H70 simply cause the FRIO was not cutting it, click my imageshak link in my sig if you wanna see what i am talking about ha ha ......

Arctic Silver is getting old and outdated. So far I've tested AS5, Tuniq TX-4 and IC Diamond. IC Diamond seems to stand above the rest with TX-4 following close behind. At 4.8GHz and 1.36v I don't break 64C on my Xigmatek Aegir.

4.8ghz 1hr stable both blend and small fft's - currently running with 1.42 vcore set in bios, seeing 1.5v with 100% load. Max temps are 70/81/82/78 @111W.

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1677337 - no HT/5ghz, stable enough to run vantage, but not stable for more than 30 minutes. vcore set to 1.43 in bios for that, seeing 1.51 under load.

Those are decent temps for that vcore and multi . Anything after 4.8 vcore starts getting pretty high for bench stability. Curses to all of you who can run 5.0ghz lower than 1.5v !
