I agree, I think in the next few years when they are still pushing out modern or near modern games it's going to be oh..another M16, another M4, etc etc a really great fresh game in far modern or from a past conflict will make a big hit and the trend will shift.

I would say the only advantage to the modern/near modern theme is that the world as we live in today keeps changing, so every few years theres some new things to add.

They need to make a SP version of the Shattered Horizon universe, imo. I'd like more WW2 games too, they just need to be well done. There were too many crappy ones. Just cause they made a ton of crappy games in the WW2 timeline doesn't mean they shouldn't try to make one that is good. I like WW2 history so maybe that's just me though. I would like to see some more futuristic ones too. Someone mentioned more like bf2142. I can agree with that.

If they made an incredibly detailed WWII game, that would actually look great. I could imagine all of the natural conditions that would have to be in there, much more than would be in a futuristic game.

The problem with going back further than WWII is weapon choices. Automatic rifles/ sub machine guns didn't enter till the end of WWI. Also, WWI was largely trench warfare, so many soldiers actually fought with revolvers and shotguns. It's already unrealistic enough that many games let people run around with an MG42 in hand just to increase the weapon choices. But, I would love for a developer to really take hold of the true essence of WWII, and focus on the iron beasts that played a large part of that era as well as the horseback Cavalries.

When more people find out about the awesomeness of 'Project Reality', people will not see twitch FPS the same again... Unless the have ADD/ADHD.
