JRPG suggestions

Thread Starter
I'm looking for JRPG or similar game suggestions.

Preferably games similar to: Disgaea 3, Star Ocean TLHI, Final Fantasy XIII (FF to a lesser extant), Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure, Glory of Heracles, Kingdom Hearts series, Tales series.

I'm really interested in Hyperdimension Neptunia or Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland. User opinions about those?

Not looking for Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Borderlands, etc.

Bonus: If you can change the spoken language, that will be a big plus >_>

Edit: PS3, obviously.

Perhaps Last Remnant. I'm pretty sure that gets classified in the JRPG genre.

It's not exactly a JRPG, but a really fun game I have is Valkyria Chronicles. That's worth a look, IMO, as well.

Those are excellent suggestions, but I should mention already that I own both.

Atelier Rorona was an interesting approach for me, reminded me of Recettar because of all the money management and items. The battle system is quite lacking but the alchemy system and characters makes up for it in my opinion. Besides that you should check out Resonance of Fate also.

Both of those are good. I've not gotten very far into either though.

Atelier if you prefer traditional turn-based combat. No frills, but like the other Atelier games involves lots of explosive items. Neptunia's got that interesting combo-customizing ripped right out of Cross Edge if you've played it. Although there's really not much hand-holding on how to work it and what works well against what. I'm still figuring things out in that regard.

English VO in Neptunia is pretty bad though, but you can change that to Japanese if you prefer. I think Rorona can do it too, but I really haven't logged much time into it.

I prefer Neptunia, but aside from item crafting I was never terribly into the Atelier series. Neptunia also uses your PS3's photo library for a few things, although it's mainly trivial things.

You could wait for the new Ar Tonelico: Qoga coming soon. I've got it on pre-order and since they scrapped the 2nd's combat system I'm excited to see how it plays.
Another to look into is Trinity Universe, it's got the precursor to Neptunia's PS3 photo usage.

That makes sense; thanks for the input. I think I remember renting of Resonance of Fate, but I don't really have an opinion on it.

I was wondering what made you take so long :3 I've glanced at a few NIS games, but, for some reason, I can never really get in to them. I've looked up Knell of Ar Ciel, ever since I heard about it at last year's ACEN, so that might be a possibility.

I have a question for you, Firestorm. Do you think that BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II will be worth playing on the 3DS? It might be the first game that I buy for it (I've already bought the 3DS, just waiting on the release date to pick it up).

Yeah, NISA stuff is kind of hit-or-miss and, looking back, it's generic RPG flavors.
They do have a habit of taking an otherwise simple game and complicating (perhaps over-complicating) one or two elements, but having a surprising complex element tacked onto a mildly entertaining and usually lighthearted story seems to be my thing.

As for Blazblue, I can't really comment. I actually just picked up the first one.

edit------
also grr at using a public computer. it keeps logging me off of OCN >.<

If you're picking up BlazBlue II, I suggest you pick it up for the PS3.

While we're on the subject of JRPG's, Cross X Edge is decent. What else are there..

-Disgaea 3 (Pretty old but still a great J-TRPG
-Resonance of Fate (As someone already mentioned)
-Eternal Sonata
-Alterier Rororna (I have this game and yet I haven't opened it up yet because I heard that there is a time limit for the story...so yeah)

- Starocean: The Last Hope

I'll list some more out if I remember any..

White Knight Chronicles is garbage... imo

Resonance of Fate... is the best JRPG on the PS3... easily... (with a North American release)

Someone mentioned Last Remnant, but to my knowledge that never had a US release... shame really...

Unfortunately Sony seems to want to fuel the PSP with the IP, rather than develop for the PS3... but I never accused Sony of an overabundant use of intelligence.
