Decent rig for gaming

Thread Starter
Just saw a decent rig on ebay, that is quite cheap

How ever it has the phenom II x3 720.
Don't know much about AMD CPUs so I am wondering how good this chip is, how well it overclocks, and how long it would potentially last.

I would be using the rig mainly to play games at 1080p, and plan to drop a 5870/5950 in there, just want some idea of the performance of the CPU

Link to the auction

Thanks guys

it is a pretty decent cpu. many unlock to a quad core and iirc they generally clock to about 3.6. which is fine for gaming

MY girl uses a x3 420 and it works great for gaming. I think the weak link on that PC would be the GPU.

Thanks for that insanely quick price

So by dropping a decent GPU this should be able to handle most things at 1080 for the next 2 years or so?

It would be awesome if I could unlcok it to a quad-core, especially since the price is so cheap

Yeah get yourself a nice cheap gtx 460 and I know you'd be good for games like rift and mirrors edge for sure.

Yeah if I get it I would drop in a new GPU first thing
Probably a 5870/5950/gtx 560ti

I was mainly concerned with the CPU but you guys have put my mind to ease.

Definately try to snipe in a final bid and win this thing, for that price it seems a bargain
