Question about: WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player!

I'm about to jump on this:

Newegg:
Western Digital WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-593-_-Product
Price: $99.99

Amazon:
Western Digital WD TV Live Plus 1080p HD Media Player

Price: $ 98.54

Western Digital WD TV Live Network-ready HD Media Player
Price: $109.95

So basically what I need to do and what I expect from it is to play movies on my tv, I have and 4 year old DLP Samsung 61" one room away from my computer which I want it to stream wireless from the home network.

Ok so my questions about this is this, at amazon.com there is two different ones, and I think the Plus is the newest version, but how come the other is more expensive? So it's the plus the newest version? I'm a big fan of newegg, but I have $40 dollars worth of gift card from amazon that it could be a good reason to use them.

Now one more question is about media players in general, I have heard about others one like rooku (if I'm not misspelling it wrong) and also some from apple, I'm not sure. Would anyone recommend this or other media players, if so please let me know why.

Also would this play from a pen drive? I have an 16GB pen drive that I would like to play from it, when going to my brother in law house.

Last, what would be a good storage HD, I might be looking into something with 2TB of space.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry if this is not the right section to post this.

I'm not sure about the small differences between the two WD boxes you posted... I would definitely go with Amazon w/ that gift card you have. Also, this will suit your needs. One thing to note though, if your streaming bluray content (HD) via wifi, it will lag/stutter unless you have an N wifi network setup. Wired is always preferred.

If you want basic video file sharing capabilities, I think this will fit you nicely! My dad got one and he loves it. I would see what other people say about these boxes (and maybe post in the HTPC section) as others may have more experience. The most important thing to know is what file formats you will be using and if the player can handle all of the formats and various codecs.

Hey thanks for all the info, I'm current running with a Linksys G router which probably I'll have to replace then. So I might just be on the market for a new router too. Now for the codec it would have to run most, .avi, .mkv.

Thank's for the help, and pointing some important things to check for.

Hey, please make a post and reference in the HTPC forum. I think you'll get much more responses. Also, do some searching in that forum. You're not the first to post about the WD box's.

I used to have this, as long as you are hard-wired, you should be fine. wireless will give you problems streaming 1080p. also, check out b-rad's custom fw.

p.s. it doesn't play WMV HD afaik, but the custom fw might fix that
