I think you guys might be right. While it would be nice to own a expensive card, I would never utilize all the features that I paid for. Maybe the Xonar xd is a very good middle class card that I should consider

If you're only into music on your computer I'd skip the soundcard and use S/PDIF TOSLINK to a quality DAC.

For music purposes, other than the Essence ST/X all other cards are rather mediocre (and the ST/X is considered a entry level card), but in the end it's all subjective.
