6850 owners...are you happy?

Thread Starter
Ok guys i am considering selling my 250 and going ATI again, i have read all the different performance charts and what not and the battle is between a gtx 460 and the 6850.

So back to my question, are you guys happy with your purchase? and have you ever run into any problems with drivers etc using windows 7

It also seems that the 6850 when overclocked can even hang with its big brother the 6870 at stock speeds.

Also can the 6850 be flashed to a 6870 or am i thinking about the wrong cards here.

6850 can't be flashed to a 6870.
You probably confused it with 6950, some of them can be flashed to a 6970.

I'm happy until I compare benchmarks to other people.
It's not that it's a bad card, because it isn't. It just isn't amazing (in terms of absolute performance), either.

But it's a good card for <$200.

I owned a Gigabyte 6850. The card has good power but I never saw any of the "overclocking headroom" people keep talking about. After about 3 weeks of ownership I noticed a slight FPS drop and it constantly crashed on the last level of Crysis 1 and it was just kind of twitchy in Warhead; RMA'd it. The 6850 IS a good card, I guess I just got a crappy one.

If you really like the graphics you'll want to (like me) go onto something better. I purchased the 6950 2gb today.

EDIT:
Go for the 460's. They do eat a little more power up but they give the same/better performance and are cheaper. Go for the EVGA 460.

I played through Crysis and a portion of Crysis WarHead @ 820/1050. It was set on Gamer (High on Crysis), 8xAA, 16xAF and 1920x1080. It ran just fine for me except for the aforementioned crashes/stutters.

I was extremely happy with my 6850 setup, at first there were driver issues but those seem to have been ironed out since the release of the 10.12s

yep, 6850 has the best price/performance ratio in it's bracket. I ran my cards at 900 core/1100 24/7 with the stock vGPU.

Between a 460 and a 6850, I'd definitely go with the 6850

You can't really go wrong with any of those.

I went from a 460 to a 6850 after too man issues and am very happy I did. Plan on adding another one in the next month or so with a different processor(and PSU). I got a plain Sapphire because it was the cheapest. It's at 950/1150 right now and hits 65 at 65% fan speed.
