Would like to start folding on a team!

Hey Guys,
I started MONTHS ago on my main rig, but never really let it run enough due to it being my main, but now, I have an old server!!

Its a dell poweredge 2650, dual xeon 2.4ghz cpus with hyperthreading, 4gb of EEC ddr 400 ram, 3x 33.6gb 15000rpm scsi drives in raid 0, and dual 10/100/1000 ethernet conns.

Isnt the fastest, but it scores a 997 cpu score in passmark, which is up with low/mid range current dual cores. Dont even mention the other scores (8mb ati rage card)

And, the drives only max at 40mb/s read/write, so they're not fast despite me thinking they would be...

But, it is dedicated!!

So, while i install the software, can people send me some tips on optimising this rig?

-Justin

I hope you don't pay for your electricity, because that thing will suck money out of your wallet so fast otherwise...

But grats on it, hopefully it will help you in your folding quest.

Overclocking is the most important thing you need to worry about, after that then we can worry about tweaking.

Ignore him.
I'm serious! He could buy a much more efficient dual core machine, and probably have it paid for in a year with the difference in electricity usage. Servers generally suck electricity like mad.

EDIT: And that server won't overclock either...

Sorry if I wasnt more clear...

Server was Freebie, so its cheaper for me to pay the 3 dollers more a month in electricity.

Also, it consumes between 175-200 watts at full load which is way less then my i7 rig. It was plugged into a load meter (is that what you call it?) at the plant that measured power draw.

Also, Wasnt planning on clocking it.

$3 more a month is not that big of a difference

That's a reasonable consumption

Eh, despite the cpu rating, i dont think its worth it anymore for that box...

For 24 hours, it only got 6% done on a small unit, it wont finish the unit by its due date...

Once i stick this rig in a better box, ill hook it back up. Right now if its at 100% load, itll hover around 70 degrees, which is too warm for my liking.
