barb on radiator leak

post #1 of 28

:? only one is leaking...

one bitspower 1/2 barb on mcr320 with 1/2 primochill pro lrt without hose clamps... i am not sure where leak is coming from... barb or tube...

other barbs/tubes are fine... just this...

so what should i do check?

so far that i am sure its not o-ring...

maybe tube because tube has to be twisted to koolance ar697 with straight barb... should i use 90 degree fittings to reduce leak?

that picture is not helping... i guess...

btw... no clamp goal >_>;

From experience, I've found that 1/2" tubing on 1/2" barbs will need a little reinforcement for it not to leak, so my guess would be the tubing itself which isn't fitting snugly over the barb.

If your goal is to be clamp-less, you should really consider 7/16" tubing over 1/2" barbs, I've been using them for the past 2 years with no fail..

A 90 degree fitting would solve the tubing stress issue, which is what i think the leak stems from. beware of rotary fittings though, bitspower rotarys are notorious for leaking at the o-ring inside the rotary mechanism. I've gone through 3 BP rotary fittings because of this (all 90 degree ones).

try using a different barb + use a clamp and see if that fixes it.
Has the barb you're using have a rubber o ring on it?

I also had issues with 1/2 over 1/2 barbs leaking, so I went to 7/16 Primochill over 1/2 barbs. If your barbs and tubing are matched dimensions then you need clamps, no way around it. You can't go clampless until you have smaller ID tube than the barb's OD. Otherwise the tubing just isn't secure enough.

Yeah, I figure if I need to use boiling water to stretch the tubing over and a knife to remove it that it's secure enough for me

I've never had problems getting the tubing on, but I do have to cut it off with a knife.
