AMD Rig is up and functioning!

Thread Starter
Hello again,

I added my system to my sig. I would like to start into the OC'ing slowly so looking for some guidance for the following:

I am only running at 1333 MHz right now? I know this is default, should I just up it to 1600 in the BIOS? Also what is recommended for testing my speed?

And as for the CPU, do I have to do anything to enable the TURBO other then change it to enabled in the BIOS? And again what is a good test for the CPU that should be performed to check stability of the system?

Also I am not ready for this, but would it be a good idea to possibly set the CPU cores at a constant 3.6 GHz to start or just use the TURBO for a bit?

All right I think that is enough with the questions for one evening.

Thanks in advance,
Jesse

From what I understand about turbo on 6 cores it only "turbos" 3 of the cores when needed. If that was the case I would leave it off. If you have 1600 memory, just manually input your timings and voltage in your bios.

Also from what I see on your motherboard, you do not have a heatsink on your mosfets. I would not over-clock your cpu much

you could try http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-011-_-Product

Yeah, the VRMs are good quality and okay for 125W at stock only with stock cooling.... deviate either one of these and you'll want to add any sort of VRM cooling.
Set memory multiplier to x8 for 1600Mhz, be sure timings are set manually

I went in and did the 8x, then the timing as 9 9 9 24 2T and what ever else it said for SPD set-up. Then when reboot it says that boot failure due to overclocking. And it is still saying 1333 ram?

Also ran a Windows mem diagnostic and it said hardware failure?

Let me know what you guys think. It seems to be running fine with these setting. But I do not have any SW to monitor it (suggestions please)

Thanks again

Set everything back to stock and running at 1333, but no Hardware failure in boot or during the mem test.
Is there something else that I would need to change so that there is not a failure.

Thanks, off to do some more reading.

Did you set your 1600 speed, 9-9-9-24 2T, AND your voltage?

I left the voltage at 1.5. Should it be set higher? The RAM characteristics call for 1.5V and they are 1600.

Okay, so it seems that the dual BIOS were not lining up properly. So it was giving me a failure. In the process of changing things back and forth from stock to recommended I ended up changing the auto setting to the same as the Speed settings. I am not sure how that is, but seemed like it happened when I had manual set-up and pressed save optimized setting.
Sounds right that they need to match, so I figured this out I believe. I am running at 1600 MHz now and voltage set to 1.65V, now I truly need a suggestion for a good memory test software? And also should I monitoring the RAM temps with the higher voltage, or anywhere else on the board?

Thanks in advance
