My post was aimed just in case he doubts his 5870.

Don't make any assumptions nor judge.
why attack me?? i was just stating what he said. from what i understand op just wonders how his card compares to the newer generation

where did you pull the whole doubting thing from lol?
the 5870 is a powerful card and im sure he knows it

I've also heard GTX580 cores. Only time will tell, because we won't know for sure until Nvidia lets out the specs on it.

Remember, we were supposed to get a GTX485, and GTX490 too.

Your point?

Just because that's how its been done in the past, doesn't mean jack squat for today.

History Lesson:
8800GS = 9600GSO = GT240 (all 96 SP's)
8800GT = 9800GT (all 112 SP's)
8800GTS 512 = 9800GTX = 9800GTX+ = GTS250 (all 128 SP's)

What's the point of this exactly?

Good luck fitting 2x GTX580 cores on a single card, and keeping it within PCIe power standards . This is why it's been rumored that they'll be using 560 cores.

The 590 as two 560 chips would be a huge failure. It's supposed to compete with the HD 6990. The 6990 will be two underclocked 6970 chips just like the 5970 was two underclocked 5870 chips.

Sorry, but ignoring the trend makes no sense what-so-ever.

But they have also rumoured to be 2 580 cores as well, but for the op, his 5870 is not in NEED to upgrade, there will be advantages, but really how much more? and is that "more" worth the $$, I think if he really wants upgrade just double up on the card he has now for low $$ and improved preformance.

Sorry, but rebranding for four generations of GPU's makes no sense either.

I'm just saying that there's too much rumor, and there is no FACT to back either statement up yet. We have absolutely NO IDEA what the GTX590 is going to be. Could be 560's, 570's, or 580's on one card. Like I said though, unless Nvidia has a magical elf in their factory, good luck fitting two 580 cores on one die, and keeping within PCIe power standards.

LOL, getting carried away. To OP: I'd wait till next gen to upgrade. Even if you sold your 5870, the money out of pocket wouldn't be worth the small improvement.
