Disintegrating Video Card Memory!!!

Thread Starter
I have a 7900 GS with stock cooling OC'd from 450/660 to 615/760
My GPU reads 67 Celsius on 93-94% loads with ati-tool
  1. There's no thermal diode or ambient sensor to indicate how hot the memory is either so i'm a lil concerned on how long i can expect my card to last. It drops the core clock back down to stock on low GPU loads, but the mem speed is the same throughout. I start artifacting with anything higher than what I have now.
  2. I have a huge thermaltake volcano with an enormous solid copper heatsink with loads of paper thin fins and a matching TT-8025A fan on top. I would have to jimmy-rig it to the card, but would it worth it? I also have a 80+ CFM case fan (weighs like a pound).. but would have to cut a hole for it to fit in this case.... would that make much difference either?

Dude everything is fine man. Your just pushing your ram too far is all. Keep it below where you artifact and you will be fine. Nothing is wrong with your fan. Just make sure you have plenty of air flow.

At this point it has lasted quite a long time.
It's artifacting since your overclock is simply too high.

You would do well with a new computer.

This ^^ You can get a nice decent computer (much better than what you have ATM), for about 600-700.

It doesn't artifact at 615/760 at all. I'm 10 Mhz below that.

I have an old IBM Z-Pro but no cpu's, no ram, no drives, no graphics card. It only has 1 pci-e x16 slot, but it could take 2x xeon 2.8 Ghz cpu's and 4 gigs of ram...... if only i had couple hundred dollars to spare...

Obviously at the limit then, eh?

It will still be old once you put extra parts in it, and likely could buy a much better system for the cash you'll use trying to refurbish old server hardware.
