I also played commander quite a bit, it was rather fun being more strategic than gung-ho.

I think it would be cool to have some levels like in Resident Evil 5 where you have to work as a team to accomplish goals, and you don't have an invincible squad-mate either. Though AI would have to be really good. It would be fun to be able to play co-op single player though.

Commander was good when you were lazy or having a nice meal, just sit back and watch the map, and assist people with one hand clicking the mouse and eating food with the other.

No. Because of people like you COD did stupid things like put red dot sights in a Vietnam setting game.

Looking like a generic unknown soldier with no name is what really puts you there and increases the depth.

Your probably gonna say something like "screw the mood/depth I just want to cap people". Well then BF isn't for you. Go back to pseudo realistic shooters like Call of Duty where it's a one man super soldier that takes on everyone.
No, I love mood and depth, I love the battlefield games, been playing them all since 1942, but honestly a little bit of customization isn't going to kill the game. Like I said, just small things like tactical goggles or small astestic things like badges or rank and awards on the uniform.

You mean you have more hours played in a game out for 6 years than a guy does in a game out for 1 year? SHOCKING! Really!

IMO, commander is not gone... merely de-centralised.
While true - the commander position does have the potential of being jacked by an idiot, doesn't mean you completely remove the position. You find a better way of determining how the position gets handed out or selected. At least, thats the way I see it.

Honestly, something like that gets "abused" no matter how you implement it. You can just as easily get a stupid Sniper in BC2 who is locking airstrikes completely off target, completely hogging the thing. While less likely and better than having one idiot have all the powers, it still happens.

I believe his point is that he poured more time into it then most games on average. Probably still does too. Most games, at least nowadays, you drop after a month or a few if not one year. Something like CS:S you play for a very very long time, competitive with an MMO lifespan.

Hence my last statement. I don't believe commander powers have gone, but they have been de-centralised. I would like to see them in control and used by a squad leader.

That is really good idea. Hopefully DICE has considered this and will implement it. I can't think of any significant problems with that as compared to one or everyone as a commander implementation. In fact, it encourages players to form more squads. I likely

How hasn't this come up to anyones mind?

Maybe since there only making one game, console & PC version will be the same generally. So they have to remove the Commander position as nobody on console would want to play that, or play it properly for that matter.
