Maybe since there only making one game, console & PC version will be the same generally. So they have to remove the Commander position as nobody on console would want to play that, or play it properly for that matter.
Why would a PC gamer want to play commander... but someone on console not? Is there a lack of authoritarian gamers on console or something?

Lack of buttons on a controller

It would clunky and inefficient on a console.

Commander mode was really fun in BF2 actually. I've played with a lot of guys who were good at commanding and good at combat. Sad that it doesn't make a return.

I belonged to a community that had 400+ members, BF2 Combat.

Two battledays per week, 12 hrs each, 32 v 32 all day.

The commander role was huge. The team with the better commander always had an edge. We would all be in our channels in TS and worked together. It was what BF2 was made for. We all, everyone Im still gaming with, are eagerly awaiting BF3 and hoping that it has the same core ingredients that made BF2 so awesome.

But your 400 people are a very small minority. I used to be in the 21CW community that did the same sort of thing.

really? TWL, CAL, all the mods, you yourself know that at 21CW the commander played an important role. I played there myself for 4-5 tours.

I was never a player at 21CW but I was an admin of TGN and worked for MyIS for a while. I understand it's important, but a game has to be designed for the majority of players.

LOL, the reason BF2 was and still is relevent is because of the team based nature it demands.

Play on a server thats all run and gun and personal achievement based then go to a server that has a good commander and squads that work as teams. Let me know which one is more enjoyable. Thats why we loved that game, and look forward to enjoying BF3.

MOH, BadCo, BlackOps, all fun for you, and maybe a team effort at times, but its a very singular gaming experience. The draw BF2 had was if your team worked togther you had more fun.

That's the point, most of the time on public servers, there aren't good commanders and that just hinders gameplay even if you want to play as a team. You rely on a good commander to be effective.

Move commander assets to squad level and you aren't relying on a single person to enable effective squad work.
I disagree. If you have a lousy commander, u ignore him. If you move command assets to single players you get the noob sniper in BadCo calling in airstrikes on some dude he is pissed at.

On another subject, game sounds. You notice how loud the sound effects are in some other FPS games. Thats the first thing that is a warning to me the game is gonna suck. When they, the developers, have to bombard you with sound to invoke anxiety or to create a false sense of urgency, they almost always fail. The ability to communicate within a squad and to be actually heard is huge. There are points on many of BF2 maps where there is silence except for a faint siren. The subtle nuance of that game is amazing.
