[DF] Valve: Games Will Detect Your Feelings - Page 5

A game telling you that you're angry is about the equivalent of it saying "umad?"... which would probably annoy someone even further.

Emotional connection to your character and the game are EVERYTHING.
Pretty much the only feeling I get from games are frustrations when I get stuck or can't do something to progress in the game.

This.

IMO, sound effects and music are more important than graphics. I think sound is seriously lacking nowadays, with the frenzy for better graphics it's being neglected in the back seat. Many of the 10ish-year-old games have incredible sound tracks because sound was all they had to work with...

I would say that it is a combination of both sound and graphics. Of course sound has definitely taken a back seat nowadays with games, but graphics are a huge part of the game as well, so music can hardly be considered a huge part of a game. Otherwise we would have text-based games with really good sound tracks, but that would pretty much be the same as reading while also listening to music, that just wouldn't work out for a game.

They just need to balance audio and graphics, and work on improving the performance of both so that it creates a more immersive environment.

They haven't thought this through
Er no... You haven't thought this through

First of all, I assume the game creators primary objective is to make money, and they would make money by people loving the game

So why would they detect you're angry and make you more angry? Then you won't want to play the game

Possibility for a L4D scenario if it detects you're angry is to send screaming hoards of zombies at you.... Just after you find a sweet new weapon. One shotgun in each hand or something

And the more angry you are, the more the map is populated with red exploding barrels

Cause then anger + double shotgun + waves of zombies will be like ohhh yeeeeeaaaah

Ok, some of you guys need to actually look at the article. It wouldn't just sense that you're mad and tell you. It would change the game based on your biometric readings, adapting based on your emotions to make it more fun.
