Are my hard drives bricked ?

Ok so i take two working western digital black caviar harddrives from 2 seperate rigs and delete the partitions on them. Using an asus p5q pro i set them in a raid 0 configuration and using paragon boot manager i create an NTFS partition.

I go to install windows xp on my raid array hit f6 and attempt to load my raid drivers from a floppy only to be met with an error telling me it can't use the drivers. So thinking my floppy is a piece of crap i try another floppy and another floppy disk, same thing. OK so now i'm kind of pissed off. I try to use this method http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...9-ich9r-4.html which i've done before with success only to be met with a BSOD. I try again on a fresh install and it doesn't work. I try to create an xp image using nlite with the raid drivers already on the iso and that blue screens. I delete the partition on the raid array and go through the asus raid menu to split the hard drives and set them back to IDE. I install xp successfully on both hard drive partitions ..they both still work. I delete the partitions and reset the hard drives to raid 0 and reformat in ntfs using paragon " because xp takes forever for whatever reason to format " .

I decide to say **** it and try to install windows 7 on the raid array. To doubly make sure i load the raid controllers onto an external and load it during the installation process. BSOD.

I delete the partition and put the raid array back into seperate IDE drives. I go into paragon boot manager and check the disks. One disk formats to ntfs fine the other one freezes when i try to access it . I check the bios and bios detects it. I look at the clusters with paragon and everything reads "00" instead of the usual random bits and pieces of gibberish per cluster " i'm not in the know about that kind of stuff so excuse my lingo" .

Ok so its been 3 days of going back and forth trying to make this work. Now one drive is acting screwy. Wait nope, i raid array them and format in NTFS fine. I go to install windows 7.... now it tells me it cant use the partition, i tell windows to repartition and it tells me the same thing. I delete the partition split the drives back to ide and try to inspect them with paragon. When trying to access either drive my computer freezes. When trying to install windows on either drive windows tells me it can't use the partition.

...did both my hard drives go from working to being ******* bricked ? Did i really just spend 3 ******* evenings after 3 8 hour shifts to have it all convalesce into two ******* bricked hard drives and no working computers ?

Is there anyway i can recover these drives ? If not how long does western digital cover their warranties ? These are marked for december 18 and 19 2009....

what happened and where do i go from here ? Its 4 in the morning on day 3 and i'm about to punch my dry wall into swiss cheese.

Are there any programs i can download that repair the boot sectors of these hard drives ? They appear in the bios just.. Maybe i broke the raid array at some point without deleting the partition ? I don't recall doing so but thats the only reasonable explanation i can think of ... Is there anything that exists that will completely whipe the boot sectors of these drives clean ?

Western Digital usually warranties their drives for 3-5 years depending on the drive (you bought them brand new right?).

Get Western Digital's Lifeguard Diagnostic tools from here:
http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...&sid=2&lang=en

The Windows version is fine, and run the tests (they can take awhile so do it while you're sleeping or out doing errands or something).

If they come back with errors, note them and it'll probably make the RMA process simpler if you just relay the information to their customer service.

Their RMA process was pretty good when I had a drive die. I paid for the replacement drive to have it shipped right away (and then they credited it back to me when they received the dead drive - they covered shipping both ways) and even upgraded me from a 640GB to 1TB drive.

Try DBAN to completely wipe both drives of everything on them, then boot to a Windows disk and use the Windows setup to create and format the partition instead of using a third party app. That tends to work better in situations like this.

K funny how you plugged DNAB because i haven't been back to this thread since i posted but i found my way to the boot and nuke software through some of my own research. The hard drives work now, but for whatever reason when i link them in raid 0 and try to install win7 both with and without the southbridge drivers off my external HDD i get BSOD and my hard drives go back to being unusable. Considering it takes 7 hours to run the DNAB software i've basically given up on raid array. I'm using an p5q pro. No clue why raid won't work, but after 5 days of not having a computer i kind of don't care anymore.

It only takes that long if you use a higher level. Use one of the single pass methods which should clear a drive in about an hour or so.
