Bulletstorm Artifacts on 6900 series cards

Ok... So here's an issue I found and had to fix on my own. (And I'm not the only one... But i swear! It just seems like no one else on this forum with a 6900 series has played Bulletstorm yet! So I felt I had to post this just in case.) With my video card I noticed ONLY in Bulletstorm that there was a glitch in the way the lightshafts were drawn.. From the top right of the screen down to the bottom left there was an entire triangle that didn't show any of the lightshafts. I did a little digging and from what i discover is that it's either a AMD driver issue with the engine or it may have something to do with the fact that my card is a Sapphire brand (Unconfirmed... but possibly the issue).

---Update: Nope. It appears to be the 6900's

I read on another site that people were able to overcome this by simply turning the post-processing to medium thru the game and were forced to be content with it. HELL NO, I said, I like making things a little more difficult! There has to be another way to just isolate the issue and at the very least turn that off.... So here's what I came up with!

Unfortunately this does turn off the lightshafts, but that's what the problem is!! It sucks but hopefully something will come soon to remedy this. For now, use this:

Ars Technica reported on about the pc version of BS and some of the issues they found with it. Even if you don't have the artifacting I highly recommend looking into this as you can actually push BS into a better PC game by beating it in a corner sensless.

http://arstechnica.com/ga...-nice-with-your-pc.ars

In a nutshell, Google 'BulletStormINIeditor.exe' and download it. After you've gotten that open it up and go to the config files. The ones you're looking for (and for some reason this location was NEVER mentioned in the Ars piece) are located in '..\\Documents\\My Games\\BulletStorm\\StormGame\\Config'.

You'll want to open up the 'StormEngine.ini' and look for 'LightShafts=True' under the part '[SystemSettings]' about halfway thru. Now honestly, it's easier to copy and paste the entire config into word or some other editor and then search from there. Switch 'LightShafts=True' to 'LightShafts=False'. And then save! That's it! Takes care of that annoying little bug! At least for now... There is possibly another answer but i tried quite a few different combination's and sadly had to settle for taking out the awesome aesthetic ambiance...

---UPDATE: Apparently there is another Decrypter that makes the copy-and-paste bit unneeded. However I haven't tried it yet.

Also i would suggest searching into this a little bit more and seeing how much further you can push it. Namely, here

I hope this helps someone!

BTW

---And yeah... it is kinda funny that it's almost the exact same place for both screens!! If you go idle at the title screen it goes to a quick, but refreshing, 'screensaver' kinda mode!---

Here is the Before

and here is the After

Too tired to explain what the difference is... tho if you can't see it then..... I dunno... have your friend slap you with badgers or something

My friend also has this problem with his 6970. Just going to have to wait till a driver update I'm afraid.

Apart from scaling awesomely when you add an extra card But apart from that I may have to agree with you there.

The GTX 580 and 570 really threw them off balance. Just wait till the 7000 series anyway Anyone who had a 5000 series card really didn't need to upgrade anyway.

Yes I did! I went from the 5770 to this card and I'm loving it so far! Of course I basically bought this as a way to cheer myself up cause I just got laid off...

But anyways... Really? I made this thread for anyone who might be experiencing issues and wasn't sure where to look as there was a void on this site for the info! Not for an A/AMD vs nVidia war! lol I mean honestly i don't see why people care sooooo much sometimes. I'm just happy to be able to play games and the like regardless of the video card manufacturer. Altho I do agree that in the context of this odd case that nVidia wins

Your artifact complaint is actually a feature. Seems like it was programmed for AMD.

PS3 and Nvidia cards doesn't have it. 360 and AMD cards have it.

My game crashes when I enable anisotropic filtering (high textures). And I struggle to understand why. ._.
