[inpai] Crysis 2 BETA CPU performance. - Page 3

the game only uses 4 cores. I tested it on my rig and cpu usage was only every other graph in task manager.

***I do not agree with downloading Crysis 2 leak***
done only for testing and I will buy the game because that version is full of glitches and is hardly playable.

Though it has the inherent limitations of the beta build, I have to wonder if this is not more indicative of the scalability being bottlenecked by code designed for tri-core consoles.(360 anyone?) Nobody knows if a hex/octo core is going to scale any better than the quads, considering the tri is right on par with them.
I also have my doubts about DX11 and this title. Considering the need for intensive coding and optimization to efficiently utilize the DX11 features, what I suspect is a poor attempt at tacking on sub par tessellation features that can keep the enthusiast crowd firing money cannons at their rigs. But I am a bit of a cynic.
I suppose on Tues we will find out. Until then it's all speculation.

this entire thread might get deleted because it is talking about a pirated leaked version of Crysis 2.

mods are stingy on that. even if you say you don't agree with it and are going to buy the game.

Also, isn't Hardcore quality Medium really?

Yep from what I read Nvidia gave Crytek $2 million to add DX11 effects. I too wonder if those effects will be almost pointless and possibly so unoptimised that ul need a quad 580 rig just to see a tiny bit of water tessellation or displacement mapping at 60fps +. Just take the islands water demo for example. Using a GTX570 it struggles to run at 50fps and that's just a demo scene with no AI or complicated geometry. Simply just tessellation and displacement mapped surfaces with some caustics on ocean floor. If you use this as an example and add the game work load on top I could see the game grinding down to teen figures or worse just enabling DX11 and being near to the ocean.

Ah well I've pre-ordered it on steam anyhoo, so in time ill see and hopefully my GTX470 overclocked should at least do something worth looking at even if it is a slide show hehe.

I hate how people use the term pirated leaked version.... Back before Torrents made piracy a huge deal (nobody talked about it nearly as much back when I was a kid learning the ropes) we would have said it was a leaked copy and been a little shameful to people who tested it. We didn't assume whether or not they would buy the final when it came out, as it was implied that the final would change (usually does). I dunno, I don't see talking about it a problem as long as you don't go "go download it so they lose money"....

Aside from that, I'm sure they did code it to scale with tri-core in mind. Even if they did, most people already say that games aren't that CPU intensive anyways. Three cores is more than what most games are scaled too, a lot are dual core. I also think these figures are low, we should see some better FPS at release.

You can actually set the highest DX9 settings in the alpha, you just have to modify the game files for it. It also helps stability because you can disable a lot of the debug features, but overall the game still crashes a LOT. Or even worse, it minimizes but then won't work when you try to maximize it. All in all you can play through enough to get a demo feel before it starts pissing on you and then you either deal with it or wait for the final. The demo will probably give you the same feel, maybe not as much play, but the same feel.

How would that make any sense?

In the BETA, I believe it's "Gamer" (low-medium), Advanced (medium-high) and Hardcore (high-very high)

What I meant was that, even if you set the quality setting to Hardcore, the game still wouldn't run at the highest quality setting possible, instead It'll run on medium-ish settings (Gamer or Advanced).

That was my understanding.

Hmm I didn't know that, thanks.

So do we know if inpai modified the game files so the BETA would actually run @ the highest DX9 quality setting possible?
