Please Recomend me Point & Shoot for travel

So long story short I will be going to Japan next month for "COMPANY TRAVEL" anyways I do have an XSI which was purchase during Christmas, but as the trip is Company travel I dont feel OK taking my DSLR more so since I will be going with an other coworker and at the company some employees talk negative about others that do the same. So even though I was advise to take it from another coworker I will not do this and instead plan on getting a P&S since it is not likely that I will get a chance to go JP any time soon. I have a Sony DSC-W50 but I will like something else budget is under 200.

i'm currently looking at the same thing. i was debating between the

Canon PowerShot SD1400-IS
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consum...shot_sd1400_is
and the
Sony Cybershot DSC-T99
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921666234218

i picked up the Sony for now to play with, and so far its handled everything nicely. camera turns on faster than i can slide the lens cover down to take a pic. from button to picture taken is about 2-3 seconds.

Since you already have a DSLR, I'd recommend the Sony DSC-H55 I have in my sig, along with the Panasonic DHC-ZM5. Great IQ, convenient focal lengths, and manual exposure settings on both cameras.

Thanks guys for the recomendations, I went to Target today 5 mins drive from APT and took a look at a few cams they had in display. Some of the recomended ones Canon PowerShot SD1400-IS and Sony Cyber-shot H55 were in display. I play with both for a bit and I like the smaller Canon it was at 199 even though I was a bit lost with the controllers took me a few minutes to adapt and figure out where was some of the features it was a nice compact cam, it didn't had memory card so couldn't test it. But then again me and my girlfriend having Sony before it was easier to the hand everything was in similar places and felt right it was on sale for 170 a bit on the bulky size. I also read about the Panasonic Lumix and some other Fujitsu. Since I will not be using it often and having the trip so soon I find my self in a bad position I like my research Thanks again for the advices, will read a bit more on those suggested.

Torn between the Panasonic Lumix DMC ZS7 and the Sony DSC-H55...

Event though I consider both on the bulky side of compact P&S, for the price I am going to pay these bring the most features and both are highly well review. Some of the Feature that still have me not set on one are
the 12x optic vs 10x
720 Video vs 1080i
Full manual vs limit manual
$200 vs $180

Most likely going for the Panasonic tomorrow will be order date which ever I decide with, Trip in 2 weeks. Comments and recomendations are welcome

If you have the extra cash, I'd grab the ZS7 instead. I love my H55 (esp since I can't afford an S95), but the ZS7 has improved optical zoom and a much sharper screen. Although I can live without Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority modes (don't use them on my DSLR anyways), I think the screen is a huge plus. The biggest annoyance I have with my H55 is that the screen isn't HQ enough to tell if my image is sharp or not. I've had a few instances where it looked sharp on the LCD until I loaded it into my PC and saw it was actually blurry or OOF.

So in short, if you have the cash, go ZS7 Just be sure you are aware of that GPS. You don't want your house's GPS location to be tagged onto your photos, now do you?

I have the SD1400 and I must say it is a VERY nice point and shoot (it was on sale here on boxing day for $150 I believe).

My only major problem with it are the lack of physical controls I am looking into an S90 now (for portability)

Thanks guys I order LumiX ZS7 Cameras, 8Gb memory card, screen protector and case for 230 shipped. Should be here by end of week didn't wanted to risk the free delivery PC upgrade will have to wait a bit longer not that I needed right now... I really like the size and reviews of the SD1400 but for $50 more the Lumix I believe is a better deal have wait and see. Excited and starting to buy travel items!
