Can some kind soul help me with ram issue

Thread Starter
I have 16gb Corsair XMS3 2000mhz CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 running in an Asus Crosshair Extreme with Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition

I am sure I have done something wrong here, but I cant for the life of me get the ram to run at 2000mhz. I got the system clocked at 4013 ghz stable but the ram shows up in CPU-Z and all other sysinfo type utils at 1003.3

I will be the first to admit I am not a pro at overclocking, and would really appreciate some help in getting this ram to run properly.

The System Information in my profile is accurate to my current system. I will also post some screenshots of the Bios settings in my next post. (Need to reboot and take some snapshots with my camera)

Meanwhile I can post the info from AMD Overdrive and AI Suite as well as CPU-Z and CoreTemp.

Thanks in advance to anyone kind enough to take thier time and look at this!

///Mike

One other tab in CPUZ that appears to be related, thought it best I upload it as well.

1000 MHz DDR = 2000 MHz.

Its running at rated speed.

EDIT:

Also,

Ok.. If I understand you correctly you mean DDR (Dual Channel) would be a 2x multiplier... But is it not the DDR3 Triple Channel or am I just confusing my terminology (forgive a layman here, I just want to understand correctly).

Given that you are correct and the ram is running at proper speeds, is there anything I can do in these bios settings to improve my setup? I upped the Northbridge voltage to 1.312 and 3000mhz after reading a thread here (i think it was here) where someone said that was necessary to get 2000mhz.

I probably shouldt be mucking about in here anymore without some expert guidance from you good folks. Should I change anything or do you have any suggestions? I am happy with the 4ghz clock, but it seems like theres probably a few more settings here you more knowledgeable guys would change..

Thanks for the fast reply and the warm welcome!

I'm a kind soul
And I say that while 2000Mhz is possible to do on an x6 with 2 DIMMs, with 4 DIMMs it will be extremely hard or impossible to stabilize. Your best bet would be to downclock to 1600-1800 and lower the timings.

Yea I got it stabile at 1600 but then i feel like damn why did i shell out the extra money for 2000mhz ram (16 gigs worth) to run it at 1600. I have had it at 4.1ghz with the ram running properly at 2000 but it would not stabilize. I am going to retry that configuration and then back down off the CPU and see if I can get it stabile. At this point I dont know whats going to be more beneficial for me performance wise the extra cream out of the ram or the extra cream out of the CPU...

Any tips are gladly appreciated.

Ok after a lot of reading and some more semi-educated guesswork, I have got the system stabile running prime95 for 10 mins so far with the following data:

CPU Voltage: 1.45
CPU/NB Voltage: 1.30
CPU/NB: 2500
HTT: 2500
NB: 1.25 Volt
CPU Multiplier 14x
Freq 250
3510 Mhz Stable 45c at 100% Load.
DRAM Frequency 1003-1011 Mhz

Ram Timings changed from 9-9-9-24-41 2T to 9-10-9-27-41 2T @ 1.65 Volt

Now I guess I will try and up the multiplier a bit and see if its stable or do any of you have suggestions on where to go from here.

EDIT:

Well before I got that far ^^ Prime had run for 15 mins max and I got a 60 degree warning from AI Suite and shut it down quickly. CoreTemp was showing a full 10 degrees less (I have read that you cant trust coretemp with Thubians.. guess thats true.)

I backed down the CPU/NB and HTT to 2250 and the system still appears stable. Running prime now. What can I adjust to avoid the system going into that high temp now...???

Second Edit:

On a side note the Noctua Cooler manual said to put a tiny drop no more than 5mm in the center of the processor, so thats what I did... I am wondering if perhaps my drop was too small since it was 5mm wide but not very high, and I have a tight fit in my case so I had to adjust it 3 or 4 times lifting it on and off the processor, thinning it out even more.

Still running stabile after 4 hours with diverse testing - 3dmark Vantage, OCCT, and Prime95

tho it does get hot and I need to stop prime after 15 mins or so cause it hits 60 degrees...

Dont know what to do about that.. maybey some settings in the bios or clock the cpu down a bit more....

any ideas?

The majority of 2000 RAM isn't worth it. Unless you only buy/use 2x2GB, and buy lower than CL9-9-9 timings, not worth it whatsoever. 1600 CL6-7 will actually beat 2000 CL9 in memory benchmarks on AMD.
Drop HT to 2000Mhz or as close as possible
post #10 of 25
Your vcore seems way too high for 3.5ghz, I'm guessing thats why it's going so hot. Lower it to around 1.3v - 1.35v
