Done already

Even unplugged all SATA devices but the one I want Linux on. Ubuntu couldnt find it.

I did install Ubuntu with Wubi.exe on my HDD (the one I want Ubuntu on).
However, I cannot boot. I get some error message regarding Windows (when I try to boot where ubuntu is) ? :S

If what I said above can be the cause. I can reboot and find out the exact error message.

this might be a retarded suggestion, but i've seen weirder suggestion work.

is there a block jumper on the driver? limiting it to 1.5gbps? if so, try removing it...doubt that it has anything to do with it, but i've had issues in the past with sata1 drives, mixed with sata2.

when u say, "when i try to boot where windows is".... what do you mean? Are you presented with a boot menu? If you have loaded windows on 1 drive and ubuntu on another, you should have been asked where you wanted to install grub. Did you get that question?
EDIT: Ok, i'm an idiot.... i read your post but still asked you this question.... doh! Sorry, so what is the error message you get when trying to boot windows?

I said "when I try to boot where Ubuntu is", not "when I try to boot where Windows is". hehe ;p.

Anyways, here's the error:

Quote:
Windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem:

1. insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. choose your language settings, and then click "next".
3. click "repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system adminitrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \\ubuntu\\winboot\\wubildr.mbr

Status: 0xc000000e

Info. The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

I'm sure I've done something wrong with this because I'm a complete beginner at this.

About grub, I got no question asking anything about that in the installation.

Anyways, the main topic of my thread is that Ubuntu can't find my HDD for some reason.

Tho, if we can solve this problem (the error I just wrote and so on and thus making Ubuntu run) that would be awesome.

when you are in the livcd does gparted see the harddrive?

open up a terminal and run this command:

df -h

does it show the harddrive there?

if it does, then the problem is once again ubiquity (ubuntu's GUI installer.)

if it is shown in those two programs/commands, try clearing the partition with gparted, and leaving the partition as raw, and (restart is recomended) and try running the installer again.

download the ubuntu .iso from ubuntu.com, download 32 or 64 bit (your choice.)

burn to cd, or use unetbootin to create a liveusb.

reboot your computer, and when prompted, choose "try ubuntu live" instead of installing it right away.

once you are to the desktop, click on application->accessories->terminal

type in the command:

df -h

look for the 70 GB harddrive, it will be like /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc, something similar.

if you can't find the 70gb HDD, then the kernel is not seeing it, if it is seeing it, then it is the ubuntu installer that is being stupid and not seeing it.

if it is shown, now type in gparted& into terminal click enter.

in gparted, in the drop down, switch to the 70gb HDD, and erase the partition, but don't recreate it, leave the HDD raw. now once it is completed, restart, this time instead of going into the live environment, choose the install option, and see if the installer will now pick up the harddrive as a raw format.

Thanks for the step-by-step tutorial.

I have now written df -h in the terminal and the only thing I can see seems to be the USB I'm running Ubuntu from.
